PRIMA Introduces SYNCRONO a Revolutionary Laser Cutting System Offering Twice the Productivity of the Fastest Machines on the Market

New cutting technology to deliver most significant cycle time reduction in the industry.

CHICOPEE, MASS. U.S.A. (April 6, 2006) - Today, PRIMA North America has announced the introduction of SYNCRONO, their new 2-D Laser Cutting System. SYNCRONO features a unique, patented laser head, designed with two additional small, linear-driven parallel kinematic axes on the moving gantry, effectively creating a "machine within a machine". This allows the cutting head to cut at exceptionally high acceleration of up to 6 G. The breakthrough innovation enables SYNCRONO to cut more than 1,000 holes per minute, making it almost twice as productive as the most advanced machines in the market.

"SYNCRONO represents a major leap forward in laser cutting technology. It is twice as productive and costs the same as the fastest machines on the market," said Mr. Thomas Burdel, VP of Sales & Marketing for Prima Laser. "This system will revolutionize laser cutting as we know it, and even replace turret punch press machines in flat sheet applications. "

The small size of the linear drives, combined with stiff, lightweight titanium components, produce minimal inertia, allowing mass to be moved with three times less the power than typical machines. In addition, a special vibration-free design and a constant beam path throughout the 60 x 120" work area provides accurate, reliable cutting, even in very small and intricate profiles.

According to Mr. Pieter Schwarzenbach, VP of Laser Technology, "SYNCRONO is optimized by the dual-machine function; one small and lightweight, with very high dynamics and minimal moving masses and one larger, with a wide working area (60 x 120"). The dual function is coordinated by patented algorithms, for the most advantageous distribution of movements throughout the axes. This also minimizes electrical consumptions."

SYNCRONO is equipped with a high quality and high power CP laser, manufactured by Prima North America. CP lasers are well known for their efficiency, versatility and low running costs. The system is also equipped with interchangeable optics, allowing the system to pass from the lowest to the highest material thickness. Syncrono's impressive performance is even further enhanced through the use of PRIMA's automated material handling server systems, which permit "lights out" manufacturing for maximum productivity gains.

PRIMA plans to showcase SYNCRONO at their Open House on May 23 and 24 in their Chicopee MA Technology Center, where fabricating professionals can see the innovation at work firsthand.

PRIMA has been an innovator of state-of-the-art systems for laser cutting of 2D and 3D parts, used in a broad range of industries worldwide since 1977.
