Lambda Research Corporation Previews Its Powerful New Fluorescence Modeling Capability for TracePro® Optical Design Software

Fluorescence Modeling Capability In Tracepro

LITTLETON, Mass., Aug. 15 // -- Lambda Research Corporation, a leading supplier of optical design software, today announced new fluorescence modeling capability in its TracePro Expert product. TracePro is a comprehensive, versatile software tool for modeling and analyzing the propagation of light in opto-mechanical systems. With the capability to simulate fluorescence, TracePro addresses the rigorous design challenges inherent in fluorescence based optical systems across the breadth of life science applications including biosensing, in-vitro and in-vivo medical diagnostics, spectroscopy, microarrays, flow cytometry and microscopy.

In addition to analyzing light distribution and scatter, TracePro Expert now offers users the ability to import fluorophore data in solution or biological tissue and to analyze fluorescence effects at any point in the opto-mechanical system. An extensive library of commercially available fluorophores, light sources, and optical components including fluorescence filters facilitate the feasibility testing of off-the-shelf components.

The interdisciplinary nature of developing applications and instrumentation for the life sciences requires a high level of collaboration between scientists and engineers across the areas of optics, mechanics, materials, chemistry and biology. Designers also face increasingly shorter product development cycles and lower R&D budgets. With its intuitive user interface, its compatibility with commercially available CAD and lens design software, and its ability to model fluorescence materials from material libraries or proprietary laboratory data, TracePro is readily integrated into a design team's workflow.

"While fluorescence tag technologies enable very sensitive detection of molecules, the optical characteristics of fluorescence severely complicate system design," said Eric Heinz of Heinz Optical Engineering, TracePro user and expert in the field of fluorescence based optical system design. "TracePro and its fluorescence modeling capability allow me to adhere to a methodical, design-for-manufacture process of testing design alternatives, evaluating established and custom optical solutions and fluorophores, and tolerancing for robustness -- all while minimizing the cost and time associated with iterative hardware prototyping."

TracePro Expert featuring the fluorescence modeling capability will ship in August to customers participating in Lambda's Beta program. Lambda will demonstrate the new software at the SPIE Optics and Photonics Exhibition, to be held at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California, August 15 - 17, 2006.
