Original Press Release:

New Apex Lab Productivity Suite Software from Canberra

Meriden, CT January 8, 2003 -
Canberra is pleased to announce the launch of its new Apex Lab Productivity Suite - software for nuclear power radiochemistry operations, environmental counting labs, health physics and government operations. Apex handles a wide range of laboratory management functions currently performed manually or outside of the counting system.

Sample log-in and tracking, QA and calibration scheduling and corrective action, data review and re-analysis and results delivery - operational requirements that once were met with off-line operations - are now integrated into Apex. The result - elimination of manual processes, improved chain of custody, better defensibility, and effective reaction to abnormal circumstances - and reduced cost!

Major Apex features:
o Log samples into the system prior to counting.
o View and operate all of your detectors from a single screen.
o Let the system enforce QA and calibration schedules.
o Automatically lock a detector (or warn the operator) in the event of QA failure.
o Systematically review and approve data with a built-in data review package.
o Automatically transfer data to other software.
o Automatically maintain comprehensive event logs and use flexible queries to retrieve just the data you need.
o Protect all operations with a comprehensive, easy to maintain security system.
o ...and much more

The key to Apex productivity lies in its multi-user design on a client/server database model. Multi-user means you can distribute workstations wherever you need access to the system and all stations are kept in synch. You can log in a sample from one workstation in the sample preparation area, start the assay from one in the count room and perform data review from a workstation in an analyst's office - all updating a single sample record in the database.

For smaller operations - the system is available as a single user "desktop" version.

Nuclear power operations will benefit from a special add-on package designed specifically for power reactor customers. This add-on package allows the user to associate count procedures with specific site sample points as well as a set of commonly required regulatory reports.
