Kryptiq and Microsoft to Showcase Unprecedented Connectivity Between Consumers and their Doctors at HIMSS '08

Connect IQ for HealthVault Empowers Patients to Orchestrate Health Information Mobility

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 25 - Kryptiq, the leading provider of next generation healthcare connectivity solutions, today announced the first public demonstration of secure messaging between physician offices and patients using Microsoft(R) HealthVault(TM), at the 2008 HIMSS (Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society) Conference. Connect IQ(TM) for HealthVault now allows consumers to view, save and send clinical information from within their HealthVault account, improving coordination of care. Connect IQ for HealthVault is also tightly integrated with Kryptiq's Connect IQ(TM) Patient Portal, enabling health organizations to leverage HealthVault in strengthening the relationship between physicians and their patients.

When HealthVault was first launched in October 2007, consumers were given the ability to collect and store their health data in a secure online environment. Now patients and physicians can exchange problem and medication lists, lab and radiology reports, care plans and home monitored clinical data - all essential elements to improving the co-ordination of care, especially for a patient under the care of more than one physician.

"Patients are frustrated with having to demand paper copies of their medical information, and even more frustrated when their physicians don't seem to be communicating with each other," said Peter Neupert, corporate vice president for the Health Solutions Group at Microsoft Corp. "The combination of Microsoft HealthVault and Kryptiq's Connect IQ enables patients to securely access, manage and share their medical information leading to better decisions that impact their health and well-being."

Connect IQ for HealthVault benefits from recent industry momentum towards standards for interoperability. Recent data standards, such as the Consumer Empowerment Interoperability Specification (ISO3) and the Continuity of Care Document Component (CCD) approved by the Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), have begun to create clarity regarding data representation and packaging standards. These same standards are reflected in the proposed 2008 CCHIT(R) Ambulatory criteria for EHR certification. However, the industry has yet to coalesce around a standard vehicle for transporting this information.

"What has been missing from efforts to mobilize healthcare information is agreement on how the data is moved," said Luis Machuca, president and CEO of Kryptiq Corporation. "Kryptiq has the largest footprint of multi-vendor secure messaging connectivity, making Connect IQ the natural platform for secure communication of clinical information in and out of Microsoft HealthVault."
