Cherry's New SPOS Keyboards Offer Leading-Edge Functionality and Full Verification with Windows Embedded for Point of Service in a 30 Percent Smaller Footprint

PLEASANT PRAIRIE, WI - Cherry Electrical Products introduced its new SPOS Series keyboard line at Retail Systems 2005. The initial versions of these multifunctional keyboards feature a magnetic card reader and enhanced key layout for POS and commercial applications, all in a package with a 30 percent smaller footprint than conventional full-size models.

Cherry's SPOS keyboards are fully programmable and provide a full QWERTY key layout in a compact 14-inch form factor, combining maximum space efficiency with uncompromised alphanumeric data entry. They offer plug-and-play configuration for all common POS features and unique function enhancement via 'Cherry Tools' virtual programming. The SPOS keyboard line allows for quick product set-up and program configuration, including remote installation and comprehensive UPOS support. Additionally, Cherry's G81-7000/G81-8000 keyboard lines have been verified to operate with Microsoft's new Windows Embedded for Point of Service software platform.

"We are excited to see Cherry Electrical keyboards verified with Windows Embedded for Point of Service," said Jane Gilson, director, Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "Cherry's keyboards enable retailers to easily integrate with plug-and-play functionality, and empower them with a standard, retail-optimized platform that includes support for retail applications and device peripherals."

SPOS keyboards are available with and without a touchpad. The standard model (G86-61410) provides a 135-position key layout with 60 relegendable keys. The touchpad model (P/N G86-61411) has a 123-position key layout with 54 relegendable keys for easy layout configuration and quick function calls. Both products offer free programmability of all key positions in three layers and feature a high performance 3-track magnetic stripe reader. The freely programmable headers and terminators and the flexible parsing of data make the SPOS keyboard suitable for nearly any application.

Cherry SPOS keyboards measure 14.2"W X 7.8"H X 1.5"H and come with a 6-foot cable. Cherry's SPOS keyboards will begin shipping mid-summer. Suggested retail prices start at approximately $225.00 for the standard version and $290.00 for the touchpad model.
