Key Modules Guarantee Machine Access Safety

Erlanger, KY: Safety specialist Fortress Interlocks has introduced access key and safety key modules for the company's AmGard range of modular safety gate switches. The safety key module enables an operative to retain the machine activation key on their person while entering a potentially hazardous area. The access key module ensures that only authorized personnel can access a guarded area.

AmGard combines both trapped key and gate switch technology to control access to equipment protected by safety guarding, with either sliding or hinged doors. More than one safety or access key may be fitted to a single guarding system in a vertical stack. A padlock adaptor is also available which prevents the insertion of a key, or the tongue into the head, providing a link with other lockout-tagout safety procedures, Modular units provide maximum flexibility and customized interlock systems can be created to individual specifications using standard products. The modular functionality means AmGard can easily be configured to accommodate the latest safety standards and be updated in the future.

AmGard includes solenoid-controlled locks specifically for machines with run-down cycles. The AmGard AS-i range connects directly to 'AS-i Safety at Work' control networks. All Amgard modules are ingress protected to IP67 and are constructed using stainless steel and zinc alloys for trouble-free operation.

o AS-interface (AS-i) is a cabling system that allows machinery safety equipment, such as access gate switch interlocks, to operate in parallel with standard machinery controls on a single network with a common communication protocol.
