Kesteren Group Transforms the Speed, Efficiency and Cost of its Medical Factoring Process Using a Service-Oriented Architecture Built on BEA

Leading Dutch medical factoring company uses BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition to help support credit management on behalf of one third of the dentists in the Netherlands

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 27 -- BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAS) a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that Kesteren Group has transformed the speed, efficiency and cost of its end-to-end medical factoring process using a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) built on BEA. This leading Dutch factoring and credit management company chose Capgemini and BEA and created a state-of-the-art clearing system built on BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition(TM), geared to supporting increased automation, flexibility, and the easy adoption of new services. By implementing this scalable and resilient SOA environment, Kesteren is speeding up payments, saving about 50,000.00 euros (approx. USD $59,494.00) annually, and enhancing customer satisfaction.

"BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition is proving to be an excellent tool for the service-oriented development of our Web applications," says Raoul Jonkers, business development manager, Kesteren Group. "Whatever business processes our customers use to manage their billing, we can adapt their information to integrate with our credit management system. This means we can easily add new functionality as we need to. The system is also scalable to help cope with the scheduled diversification of the business into other market sectors with our new company Q-Bis Billing Services."

Kesteren Group has thirty years of experience in factoring, credit management, cash collection and as a clearing house. Headquartered in The Netherlands, the company processes more than 4.5 million invoices each year and manages assets of 450 million euros (approx. USD $535,452,966.00) annually. One third of the country's dentists rely on Kesteren for their factoring credit management -- which means that when the time comes for them to charge a patient, the request for invoice is sent to Kesteren and the company acts as the intermediary between the patient, the dentist, and the healthcare insurance provider who may be funding the cost of the treatment.

Previously, the factoring process involved a significant amount of manual intervention and overlapping business processes between the existing credit management system and the customer information. Each of these processes delayed the credit management process, increased costs, and undermined customer service.

BEA WebLogic Server Process Edition is designed to provide the "glue" between the raw information received from healthcare customers and the clearing system. This world-class application server is helping to enable Kesteren to effectively service-enable its existing resources, create composite services using process-driven development, and extend these composite services to interact with the company's other applications. Dentists and other customers receive daily updates on payment records, and the system can check among The Netherlands' 20 healthcare insurance providers whether the patient is insured, the type of policy they have and confirm any other limitations and restrictions. If they are correctly insured, Kesteren can then manage the processing and payment of the charges directly with the relevant insurance company.

The new system has also enabled Kesteren / Q-Bis Billing Services to move into e-invoicing and other forms of electronic payment. "We can now bill directly to the electronic banking application, not to an individual's residential address. Moreover, we also have the flexibility to make our payments through whichever channel is most convenient for the individual -- paper, phone or the Internet," says Jonkers.
