PolyPort Junction Box Series from Molex Reduce Costs in Industrial Control System Applications

LISLE, Ill. - January 30, 2004 - The new PolyPort(TM) junction box series from Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA) delivers an alternative way to link up power in industrial control system applications. Available in four-, six- and eight-port sizes in a three-circuit configuration, the PolyPort junction box series reduces costs and the number of cables required by allowing multiple connections from a single source.

Perfect for a variety of industrial applications, including automotive assembly lines, material handling systems, conveyors, robots, packaging and sorting equipment, the PolyPort series is available in two versions - the Mini-C PolyPort(TM) junction boxes and Micro-C PolyPort(TM) junction boxes. The Mini-C PolyPort junction boxes are 1" in diameter and are ideal for high-power, high-voltage applications. The Micro-C PolyPort junction boxes are .62" in diameter and best suited for low-power, low-voltage applications.

The PolyPort junction boxes are easy-to-use. Each port incorporates a metallic, polyester label that makes it easy to identify the ports and the equipment being powered. If needed, the markings may be wiped off and relabeled. Compared to most of the current products available in today's market, the PolyPort junction boxes function at a wider operating temperature (-50 to +90°C UL rating).

"In addition to reducing the number of cables needed, the PolyPort junction boxes are available in three standard port sizes that meet virtually any customer requirement by eliminating the call for knockouts and terminal strips," said Rob Sanville, Product Manager, Molex Incorporated, Industrial Division. "With this design, the PolyPort junction boxes lower applied costs by reducing the need for expensive special wiring and eliminating the potential for errors, making them a leading choice for control system applications that require multiple connections."

Additional features of the new PolyPort junction boxes include:

IP 68 and NEMA 6P ratings to ensure protection for boxes submerged under water for more than 30 minutes at a depth of eight feet

Gold-plated contacts for increased mating durability

Grounding pin to reduce danger of electrical shock

Two through-holes to securely anchor the box into place

Rated for 600V AC and seven amps per unit

The PolyPort junction boxes offer flexibility at an affordable cost. The list price of a four-port box is $133.64. Typical lead-time is six weeks. For additional information, visit: www.molex.com/ind/polyport.html.
