Original Press Release:

New, Enhanced Gore-Tex® Joint Sealant is Stronger than Ever, and Even More Reliable

Elkton, Md., November 7, 2003 - W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. announces the introduction of a new, improved GORE-TEX® joint sealant. The product now is twice as strong as before, making it more creep-resistant than ever ... thereby increasing seal reliability to a level never before achieved in the product. Now, industrial users who have found success with GORE-TEX® joint sealant over the past 30 years can feel more confident than ever.

This new performance enhancement is just the latest in an ongoing series of improvements made to GORE-TEX® joint sealant. The product was pioneered by Gore more than 30 years ago. At that time, GORE-TEX® joint sealant revolutionized the industry with its ability to reliably seal a wide range of equipment flanges. Since then, the product has always distinguished itself as the tightest sealing, among the most commonly used gasketing materials in chemical processing plants.

GORE-TEX® joint sealant, a versatile form-in-place gasketing material, can be used in most types of sealing applications. Made from GORE-TEX® expanded PTFE, the material is impervious to virtually all chemicals, is suitable for use from -450°F to +600°F, and withstands pressures to 3,000 psig.

"Ever since we introduced the joint sealant product, we've looked for ways to 'raise the bar' and enhance its performance characteristics," notes Rob Haywood, product specialist for GORE-TEX® joint sealants. "Increasing the tensile strength of our product improves its creep resistance, which contributes to a more reliable seal. The latest improvement ensures that the seal can be sustained reliably over time, and through dynamic processing conditions."

According to Haywood, new improved GORE-TEX® joint sealant also offers several cost advantages, an attractive benefit in today's economic climate. Customized on site, GORE-TEX® joint sealant allows the user to eliminate costly material scrap, lengthy lead times, and the excessive inventory burdens of stocking large or complex flange gaskets that must be pre-cut.
