JDSU Unveils Industry-Leading IPTV and Digital Broadcast Services Deployment Capabilities at NAB 2006

DTS-330 and DTS-200 Now Feature SimulTrak for Simultaneous Multiple IP Transport Streams Analysis, and Digital Program Insertion (DPI) Data Analysis Functions

MILPITAS, Calif., April 19 / / -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; TSX: JDU) today announced major new features to its industry- leading digital video and broadcast test and monitoring analyzers, the DTS-200 and DTS-330. The features bolster the products' ability to ensure efficient and reliable deployment of advanced digital and IP video services, such as video on demand, IPTV or digital video broadcast, for satellite, broadcast, telecommunications or cable providers around the world. JDSU's portfolio of digital video and IP video test, measurement and monitoring solutions, will be on display at NAB 2006 in Las Vegas, April 24-27, booth number SU 4201.

The company introduced the JDSU SimulTrak, a gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interface module that enables the DTS-330 and 200 to perform simultaneous analysis and monitoring of up to 256 MPEG transport streams contained within a gigabit Ethernet pipe. The SimulTrak module also provides Ethernet layer statistics that a network operator can use to quickly troubleshoot IP layer issues. Since digital content traversing through a system operator's internal network is converging to an IP routed multicast/unicast system, this ability to quickly identify routing problems is critical. JDSU is also adding to the DTS product line the ability to conduct test analysis of digital program insertion (DPI) data, the means by which ads are placed on digital video programming. These features broaden the capabilities of the DTS line to address the need for accurate, proactive and in-depth signal analysis when faced with delivering quality advanced broadband, digital video and IP services.

"JDSU is leveraging its extensive video expertise to deliver digital video and IPTV test innovation to ensure quality viewing for consumers and the retention of subscribers," said Kevin Oliver, vice president of marketing for the Cable Networks business unit of JDSU's Communications Test and Measurement Product Group. "Speed and certainty are critical when resolving complex digital and IP TV problems -- SimulTrak is a significant advancement for IP transport analysis."

"Using SimulTrak, a single technician is able to simultaneously analyze and monitor hundreds of signals -- dramatically increasing efficiency by eliminating the need to manually check each of the hundreds of MPEG-2 transport streams in a gigabit Ethernet link," Oliver added. "As for DPI data test, adding this capability gives network operators visibility into the digital advertisement insertion process, providing critical information for effective ad programming, such as confirming the proper placement of ads."

The new DPI data analysis capability of the DTS product line addresses an important advertising trend in the transition to digital and deployment of advanced services such as IPTV or HDTV. As multiple system operators (MSOs) and programmers transition from analog to digital, the accuracy and effectiveness of ad insertion time and placement already established in the analog form of video delivery must carry-over to digital. DPI plays a large role in this by enabling digital programmers to insert advertising in specific time zones and to correctly and effectively ensure ads are placed to run either in local affiliate programming or at the national level. The ability for programmers to serve ads based on specific zones on a digital network, for example, will become a key competitive advantage.

With advertisers relying on the revenue-generating impact of their investments in the digital age, JDSU's DPI analysis adds the ability to actually look at the ad insertion commands that are being fed into the multiplexer from the ad server. This helps operators to efficiently manage the process of placing ads, ensuring they successfully run when and where they are supposed to as well as quantify the impact of ads companies run on a network.
