JDSU Adds 10GigE WAN and IP Layer Functionality for Supporting Triple-Play Networks and Services to T-BERD/MTS 8000 Tester

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 14 / -- JDSU (Nasdaq: JDSU; TSX: JDU) today announced two new features for its T-BERD/MTS- 8000 Transport module, 10GigE WAN and IP functionality. This new functionality enables service providers to rapidly, reliably and cost- effectively deploy triple-play networks and services. Important complements to the already extensive product line, these enhancements further differentiate the T-BERD/MTS-8000 as one of the industry's most innovative test solutions for the installation and maintenance of next generation networks.

Advanced applications supported by this new release include performing connectivity, throughput and quality of service (QoS) tests for IP- and Ethernet-based services. In addition, the T-BERD/MTS-8000 can now measure network performance metrics such as round trip delay, out-of-sequence and dropped packets, which are all critical in the delivery of real-time services. Combined, this test functionality ensures the delivery of high quality services, reducing customer churn and ensuring new revenue streams.

"Ethernet and IP are becoming increasingly important as the primary method of delivering new revenue-generating triple-play services to end users," said Jerry Gentile, general manager of JDSU's telecommunication field services (TFS) Test and Measurement group. "These enhancements to the T-BERD/MTS-8000 illustrate our commitment to enabling the evolution towards an all-IP/Ethernet network that supports the reliable delivery of voice, video and data services."

The Transport Module is the first integrated field solution for Ethernet, SONET, SDH, PDH and T-carrier technologies, and the enhancements further support the rapid growth of IP and Ethernet services. By integrating these technologies in one module, network operators can invest in an all-in-one product that enables the efficient turn up of Metro services in one briefcase sized instrument. The module supports the T-BERD/MTS-8000's position as the industry's most compact and cost-effective solution by combining test capability for 1.5Mb/s to 10.3Gb/s technologies in an all-in-one solution weighing less than 15 pounds/seven kilograms.

The T-BERD/MTS-8000 Transport Module includes an easy-to-use graphical interface that enables users with limited test experience to verify performance parameters and ensure that services meet desired quality metrics. The platform is based on the company's T-BERD, ANT, TestPad and MTS product families, leveraging JDSU's industry-leading knowledge and market position in transport, optical, and data testing to give carriers a competitive edge and allow existing customers to migrate to the platform without adapting to a new test set.

About the JDSU T-BERD/MTS-8000

Combining multiple test capabilities with unprecedented levels of field modularity, JDSU's T-BERD/MTS-8000 is a scalable field platform for provisioning and maintaining short-haul, long-haul, FTTx, Metro, CWDM, transport, data and DWDM networks. Advanced modularity enables the T-BERD/MTS-8000 to integrate options for video microscope, VFL, light source, power meter, and optical talk set with application modules for SONET, SDH, Ethernet, multi-mode and single mode OTDRs, PMD, spectral attenuation, CD, WDM, and single-port and dual-port OSA. Compatibility with more than 10,000 field-proven units already deployed worldwide by every major telecommunications network operator enables easy migration to new network technologies while continuing to reduce expenses.
