Jaspersoft Unveils Business Intelligence for the New IT World

CEO Brian Gentile kicks off inaugural JasperWorld conference with company's roadmap for tackling the new requirements of Business Intelligence

SAN FRANCISCO -- JASPERWORLD 2011 - Kicking off a sold-out, inaugural JasperWorld Conference, Jaspersoft today unveiled its vision and roadmap for a new and modern business intelligence (BI) platform designed to address the new requirements of IT.

In his keynote, CEO Brian Gentile describes an emerging class of business, technology and user requirements that are defining a new IT world. This world is characterized by a heightened sensitivity to cost, a new technology stack that includes Cloud and Big Data and the consumerization of enterprise IT.

Today's business intelligence platforms are ill-equipped to tackle these requirements. Gentile explained: "Traditional BI solutions are beholden to their install bases and cost-laden business models and have to maintain a legacy architecture that was designed for the requirements of the old IT world. Today, data is exploding in a variety of formats, compute platforms are becoming utility-based and enterprise users are demanding a consumer web-style UI. The BI platform of the future needs to address these requirements of cost, cloud, and consumerization."

This new BI offering will require a modern, flexible architecture, an enterprise consumer-ready interface and operate on a cost-effective business model. With these new characteristics, the long sought-after dream of pervasive business intelligence can finally be realized. Today's reality is that only 20 percent of information workers use BI regularly. With a lower-cost, highly consumable, deploy-anywhere product running embedded or standalone, business intelligence can reach a much broader range of enterprise users than ever before.

Equally important in the realization of pervasive BI is the requirement for a new role in BI that is starting to emerge: the BI Builder. The BI Builder combines experience in BI with expertise in the new IT stack, playing a critical role in bridging the last mile of BI to more users.

Jaspersoft is consolidating its position as the BI platform for the new IT world and the BI Builder by addressing the emerging requirements of cost, cloud, and consumerization. Related announcements include:

Jaspersoft 4, which delivers an innovative UI framework that completes its architecture for the new technology stack. The new UI provides a consumer web app interface designed with the expectations of the enterprise consumer in mind. The CSS-based customization and theming make building BI into any web application dramatically easier for the BI Builder.

Jaspersoft Success in the Cloud. With over 100 cloud-based BI customers and a free trial for cloud BI, Jaspersoft Live, Jaspersoft continues to demonstrate the flexibility of its architecture in adapting to the new IT stack.

Jaspersoft Big Data Connectors that enable native reporting for Hadoop and many NoSQL data sources as well as massively parallel processing (MPP) analytic databases. These data stores are increasingly being used as a cost-effective way to handle exploding data volumes in the new IT world.

"BI platforms need a revolution so they can become a thrust for organizational success. With the explosion of data upon us, most companies continue to underutilize BI, even in the face of the opportunities it creates for better decision-making," says Neil Raden, founder of Hired Brains Inc. "I'm optimistic that a vendor like Jaspersoft, which is building BI with an eye towards the requirements of the new IT world, can take advantage of these new opportunities and overcome the BI barriers of the past."

"Business Intelligence has always been forced to embrace many different user requirements from IT, data analysts or casual business users. This dynamic impacted how well and far BI tools have been utilized," says Claudia Imhoff, President of Intelligent Solutions, Inc. "However, the BI Builder, as Jaspersoft puts it, has a unique opportunity to improve the adoption gap due to their knowledge of user requirements and application development skills to surface BI within the appropriate context. BI tools that are flexible enough and designed with these development capabilities embedded will be able to lay the foundation for more broadly used BI across an organization."

Gentile will detail this vision at JasperWorld.
