Red-M Releases Mobile Wireless Intrusion Detection and Prevention System

Red-Mobile conveniently secures movable installations London - 3 August 2005 - Red-M has released Red-Mobile, a portable version of its 24x7 wireless intrusion detection system consisting of four Red-Alert PRO wireless probes and a laptop-based Red-Detect correlation server. Designed for rapid deployment, Red-Mobile enables organisations as diverse as police forces, audit firms, news gathering teams and wireless LAN service providers to create a level of security that is normally only available on permanent sites. Red-Mobile is currently being used by a major US law enforcement bureau to secure the transient wireless LANs they set up during investigations. It throws a ring of protection around the WLAN, detecting intruders and launching Red-M's robust CounterMeasures module to prevent intruders from gaining access to confidential and sensitive data which, in the wrong hands, would seriously compromise law enforcement and the justice system. Andrew Barker, Chief Marketing Officer of Red-M, said that the recent court case in which a UK man was convicted and fined for hijacking a wireless broadband connection reinforced the need for wireless intrusion prevention in Europe. "Until this UK conviction, the best known reference case was in the US where a Mr Brian Salcedo was sentenced to nine years in jail last year for siphoning credit card numbers from the wireless network of the retail giant Lowes," said Barker. "People are beginning to see that hijacking wireless networks is happening everywhere. Transient wireless LANs are particularly vulnerable, hence our development of Red-Mobile." Like all Red-M intrusion detection and protection products, Red-Mobile is able to detect not only 802.11 a, b and g activity but also Bluetooth activity, giving complete security cover to the airspace around a wireless installation. Red-Mobile is used both to enforce security policies that completely ban the use of wireless technology and to secure authorised wireless activity against intrusion. Red-Mobile is available in Europe.
