Interconnect System operates at up to 15 GHz.

Press Release Summary:

Supporting data rates to 10 Gbps, GORE(TM) Ultra High Density Interconnect System consists of cable-to-board and cable-to-cable interconnects for high-speed signals. PC board-mounted interposers/headers and low loss coaxial assemblies can be ganged together in multi-position housing with 0.120 in. signal-to-signal spacing. Typical insertion loss is 0.90 dB/ft or less through 6 GHz with low loss cable and 0.75 dB/ft or less through 6 GHz with ultra-low loss cable.

GORE(TM) Ultra High Density Interconnect System Provides Increased Packaging Density at Frequencies Up to 15 GHz

Elkton, Md. (November 2004) - W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., a leading provider of interconnects for automated test equipment, offers the GORE(TM) Ultra High Density (UHD) Interconnect System, a cable-to-board and cable-to-cable coaxial interconnect that provides high density, cost-effective performance for high-speed signals. The system is an ideal interconnect for test heads and probe cards used in automated test equipment, front-of-system connections, and backplanes in high data rate applications, as well as bench-top testing.

The GORE(TM) UHD Interconnect System is a proven technology for ATE that is now available with performance up to 15 GHz. It supports data rates up to 10 Gbits per second. The interconnect system consists of PC board-mounted interposers/headers and low loss coaxial assemblies that can be ganged together in multi-position housings for very high packaging densities (0.120" signal-to-signal spacing).

Lower insertion forces make this interconnect system easier to use as compared to other RF connector systems. It provides simple, reliable, blind mating for test applications, and its small, flexible cable is easy to route. In addition, it provides RF-like performance with higher signal density compared to traditional RF connectors.

The standard UHD interconnect system is available as UHD-to-UHD or UHD to a variety of standard coaxial connectors. Cable choices include GORE(TM) low loss or ultra-low loss coaxial cable. Cable assemblies are available as single lines or ganged into housings (1x2, 1x4 and 1x8) which accommodate the UHD connectors. Typical insertion loss is 0.90 dB per foot or less through 6 GHz with low loss cable and 0.75 dB per foot or less through 6 GHz with ultra-low loss cable.

The UHD-compatible printed circuit board header is available in both surface and edge-launch versions. Each consists of multiple UHD contacts ganged together in a header (1x2, 1x4 or 1x8). Signal spacing within each header is 0.120 in. Headers can be stacked side-to-side or end-to-end.
