Intelligent Protocol Analyzer works with Memory Stick®.

Press Release Summary:

Analyzer, for testing and evaluation of software for devices that support IC storage medium, records digital data and displays analysis results of communication protocols exchanged between media and compatible devices on user's PC. Trigger options assist in capture of desired events. Memory Stick-specific protocol analyzer can be combined with other measuring instruments, while protocols and corresponding signal waveforms can be simultaneously analyzed by using digital oscilloscopes.

Original Press Release:

Launching of World's First Memory Stick(TM) Protocol Analyzer

Newnan, Georgia - Yokogawa Electric Corporation and Yokogawa Digital Computer Corporation announced that they have jointly developed a Memory Stick Protocol Analyzer, which will be available to the market beginning on December 15, 2002. Developed for the effective testing and evaluation of software for devices that support the Memory Stick, an IC storage medium, the Yokogawa Memory Stick Protocol Analyzer can clearly display analysis results of communication protocols that are exchanged between the media and compatible devices on the user's personal computer. A variety of trigger options assists in the expedient capture of desired events, thus substantially contributing to more efficient development of Memory Stick devices.

The Yokogawa Memory Stick Protocol Analyzer will be previewed at the Embedded Technology 2002 Show, held on November 20 through 22 at "Pacifico Yokohama" in Japan.

The Memory Stick is a tiny IC medium that can record a large amount of digital data, and the development of supporting devices has become the focus of attention in the industry. Approximately 370 companies have adopted the standards as of October 2002, and more than 30 million units have shipped as of October 2002.

Development of Memory Stick devices requires ensuring normal communications between the media and the devices by analyzing and evaluating the protocols. Conventionally, general logic analyzers were used to observe these digital binary signals, locating problems was a time consuming process.

In response to the need for precise analysis in this area, Yokogawa Electric Corporation and Yokogawa Digital Computer Corporation have worked in tandem, each contributing their extensive experience and high-level expertise to successfully develop an unparalleled intelligent protocol analyzer. Yokogawa Electric Corporation has already produced field-proven results in developing various protocol analyzers, while Yokogawa Digital Computer Corporation's "advice series" In-Circuit Emulator (ICE) has the largest market share in Japan.

Product Features
o First-ever Memory Stick-specific protocol analyzer
o Versatile triggers for fast analysis
Objective events can be easily discovered through previously specified command patterns, error conditions, etc.
o Flexible and expandable by combining with other measuring instruments
Protocols and corresponding signal waveforms can be simultaneously analyzed by using Yokogawa Electric Corporation's digital oscilloscopes as well. Software debugging is also available by connecting captured signals to the "advice series" ICE by Yokogawa Digital Computer Corporation.

Memory Stick is a registered trademark of Sony Corporation.
