New Square D® Model 6 Intelligent Motor Control Center Offers Ethernet Connectivity to Increase Equipment Reliability, Cut Costs

PALATINE, Ill. - November 30, 2005 - Real-time monitoring and remote control of motor functions is now a reality for owners and managers of commercial and industrial facilities thanks to the new Square D® Model 6 Intelligent Motor Control Center (iMCC). Access to information is provided by Schneider Electric Transparent Ready® architecture, which allows users to optimize equipment utilization, increase reliability and reduce energy costs.

Advanced motor protection features of Motor Logic® Plus II overload relays provide the capability to customize protection levels and make the Model 6 iMCC appropriate for any motor control center application. With Transparent Ready built-in data communications, the Motor Logic Plus II relays allow facilities to monitor or control motor functions remotely at the HMI/supervisory level. Real-time information also provides maintenance staff immediate access to alarms and identification of potential problems before they become more serious, along with quickly isolating the problem location.

"Transparent Ready embedded Ethernet Web servers provide easy and affordable remote access to motor control center device data with the familiarity of a Web browser," said Bob Kennedy, Director, Network Technologies. "System data, configuration and diagnostics are all at a facility owner or manager's fingertips at any given time."

The Model 6 iMCC is a cost-effective choice for facilities because an integrated network within the motor control center reduces installation costs by up to 20 percent compared with conventional discrete point-to-point I/O wiring. Also key is the factory installation, testing and verification of I/O points, which simplifies the integration of automation and reduces field-commissioning time.

A unique trunk and tap cabling system eliminates the control wire bundle, as mechanically protected, micro-style connectors enhance network reliability in harsh industrial applications.

Schneider Electric was the first manufacturer in the world to provide an open automation framework based on the technologies of the Internet. Transparent Ready capabilities have been built into the world's broadest portfolio of automation, control and electrical equipment, including controllers, drives, motor control centers, switchgear and panelboards. Transparent Ready products use off-the-shelf Ethernet cards, hubs, routers and Web servers, saving time on infrastructure procurement, training and support.
