Original Press Release:

ThinkEye - The New Generation of Intelligent Cameras

Copenhagen, Denmark-JAI A·S, the Danish manufacturer of CCD cameras, announces the launch of ThinkEye(TM), the new generation of intelligent cameras. It is the result of a joint development by JAI and two European partners, STEMMER IMAGING and ASENTICS.

The concept of combining electronic eyes and electronic brains to a meaningful whole has been part of JAI's strategic thinking for more than a decade. It is now put into its real context in the ThinkEye product line.

Rugged stand alone solution
ThinkEye is a complete stand-alone solution, based on a PowerPC processor with floating point unit. The first member in this product family, TE-100, has a resolution of 659 x 494 pixels using a monochrome, progressive scan CCD sensor. It is housed in an anodized aluminum case which is sealed to IP65/NEMA 4X, making it ideal for factory floor applications. It accepts standard C-mount lenses. Digital inputs/outputs and RS-232 (RS-485) ports allow the direct control of external factory automation devices.

Web browser interface
Configuring and programming the TE-100 is done via an Ethernet interface, using a standard web browser, as the ThinkEye has an on-board web server. This eliminates the need for special interface software and facilitates remote configuration and maintenance.

Powerful software concept
ThinkEye is powered by Common Vision Blox, a complete image processing software suite. Applications created with Common Vision Blox will run both on the ThinkEye and on a PC platform. The solutions created using Common Vision Blox are scalable to optimize for floor space or performance, depending on the application requirements.

The software package included with the ThinkEye is referred to as the Geo-Tools, which comprises CVB-Image Manager, CVB-LightMeter, CVB-Blob and CVB-Edge. These tools allow the programmer to solve the majority of industrial image processing tasks. Additional tools are available.

An image processing component
ThinkEye is marketed as an image-processing component for OEMs and System Integrators as well as large volume end users. Thanks to the flexible and versatile programming capability, OEMs and System Integrators can easily integrate ThinkEye into their systems, while adding value to the whole solution.

Available mid-November
The ThinkEye product line is being launched at major vision trade shows in Germany, USA and Japan in the November/December 2002 time frame. The product is available for delivery mid-November through JAI's existing distribution network (available in the USA in Spring 2003).
