Champlain Cable Corporation Introduces EXAR® XLE, a Flexible Irradiation Crosslinked Insulation System for Lead Wires and Cable Jackets

COLCHESTER, Vt., May 21 /-- Champlain Cable Corporation of Colchester, Vermont announces the release of its newest product line, EXAR(R) XLE. XLE product technology combines flexibility of an elastomer and the toughness of an XLPE insulation.

It is important to note that, according to a recent news release issued on the DuPont Performance Elastomers website, Hypalon(R) will "cease production" and "exit the business." XLE fills this void and is technically superior to Hypalon(R) in most wire and cable applications.

EXAR XLE is approved by UL and CUL for 1000 volts and 105 degrees Celsius ratings per UL style sheet 3657. XLE is also successfully used in 150 degrees Celsius automotive applications per ISO 6722. UL has also approved XLE for multi conductor cables and has designated UL Style 21614 as a 105 degrees Celsius 1000 volt rated cable.

The insulation performance properties of EXAR XLE meet or exceed those of Hypalon(R) (see product comparison data at champcable/indust_controlpanels.com). EXAR(R) XLE has a UL758 cold bend rating of -70 degrees Celsius. The abrasion resistance is more than twice the abrasion resistance of Hypalon(R). EXAR XLE has excellent oil resistance. EXAR XLE passes 45 degree angle flame tests in accordance with IS0 6722. XLE has excellent dielectric properties and allows for thinner insulation wall thickness resulting in less weight, less space, and better heat dissipation.

The flexibility of EXAR XLE is excellent and compares to most elastomeric insulations. EXAR XLE is available in a wide variety of bright colors. The thinner insulation walls and increased flexibility make EXAR XLE an excellent choice for applications including but not limited to motor leadwire, back panel wiring, automotive cables as well as cable jacket insulations. EXAR XLE is targeting the Mining, Electrical Controls, Motor, and Battery markets throughout the world.

"EXAR XLE is the result of extremely precise product and application research. The introduction of this primary and jacket insulation comes at a time when the worldwide supply of Hypalon(R) will either cease or will be severely limited in the very near future," stated Dr. Koksal Tonyali, Champlain's Vice President of Technology.
