Credence's End-to-End 6.4 Gbps Solution for High-Speed Buses Delivers Industry-Leading Performance and Cost

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 7 / -- Credence Systems Corporation (NASDAQ:CMOS), a leading provider of test solutions from design to production for the worldwide semiconductor industry, today added two new instruments, the D-6436 and D-6408, to its 6.4 Gbps solutions portfolio for high-speed semiconductor test applications. Used with the Sapphire(TM) S platform, any combination of instruments from this portfolio can be configured to deliver a complete, cost-effective, end-to-end solution, from debug, characterization and validation to high-volume manufacturing test.

"In order to reduce the cost of high-speed semiconductor test, manufacturers need a single set of tools that can be used to debug next-generation designs, characterize finished design performance parameters and cost-effectively support high-volume manufacturing test," said Dave Ranhoff, president and chief executive officer of Credence Systems Corporation. "Our 6.4 Gbps solutions portfolio is the only offering on the market today tailored to deliver this capability with an optimal price and performance combination."

The D-6436 is targeted for silicon debug of designs operating up to 6.4 Gbps and has the highest channel count density and relative cost-effectiveness of any instrument currently available in its class. The D-6408 supports optimal device characterization and new design validation. Leveraging Credence's proprietary IP, these instruments are being used by market-leading integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) for the industry's lowest cost end-to-end solution for high-speed serial bus applications up to 6.4 Gbps.

The D-6436 incorporates a SERDES-per-pin architecture designed to support existing and emerging bus protocols, including PCI Express, XAUI, FB-DIMM and PCIe 2 as well as non-deterministic operations. It offers 36 differential channels per instrument, four of which can be configured as source synchronous clocks. The instrument has 128 Mb of full depth acquisition memory and can function in multiple time domains. Each pin can support clock embedded, source synchronous clock forward or tester synchronous modes to emulate native device operating modes.

The D-6408 offers fully differential inputs and outputs for 6.4 Gbps operation. With the patented sequencer-per-pin timing flexibility, edge placement accuracy is available across all pins at +/- 20 ps, providing unsurpassed clock-forwarded source synchronous operation and traditional parallel bus capabilities to support next generation HyperTransport and PCIe. With the protocol based instrument (PBI) option, the D-6408 also offers best-in-class SERDES capabilities through automated bit-lock, symbol lock and clock-tracking features. For use in the characterization environment, the D-6408 delivers accuracy and repeatability for excellent throughput and correlation. When transferred into the production environment, the D-6408 easily interfaces to a prober/handler and provides advanced data collection to drive statistical process control applications.

The D-6436 and D-6408 instruments are already shipping and in-use at industry-leading semiconductor manufacturers. Please contact your local sale representative for pricing and availability.
