Inspection Software is completely hardware-independent.

Press Release Summary:

PowerINSPECT v3 inspects prototypes, tooling, and sample parts against CAD data with various inspection devices. Able to receive and analyze up to 3,000 points/sec in real-time, it handles large point cloud data sets and features constraint-based alignment options, ability to work with various CAD formats, and DMIS export of inspection routines. Software can also produce reports with pictorial, graphical, and tabulated data in any customer-specified format.

Delcam Upgrades PowerINSPECT Inspection Software

Delcam has introduced a new version of its PowerINSPECT software for the inspection of prototypes, tooling and sample parts against CAD data with a wide range of inspection devices, including static CMMs, portable inspection arms and optical systems. The new release, PowerINSPECT 3 features faster handling of large point cloud data sets, new constraint-based alignment options, the ability to work with a wider range of CAD formats and DMIS export of inspection routines.

PowerINSPECT's speed in handling large data sets will be of particular importance to companies using lasers and other optical devices for detailed inspection of larger components. The software is now capable of receiving and analysing up to 3,000 points per second in real time from either a scanning probe or a laser probe.

Special methods are available in the software for easy analysis of this large volume of data. A filter can be applied to the points so that only those out of tolerance are displayed on the screen or included in the report. Alternatively, the PowerINSPECT coloured dots, which indicate whether the point is in tolerance, above tolerance or below tolerance, can be used to produce what is effectively an instant colour map of the accuracy of the component.

Furthermore, PowerINSPECT's unique file format simplifies data management by allowing all the inspection information to be combined with the original CAD data, the sequence of operations and the inspection reports in a single archive. This provides complete tracability for everyone involved in quality control within the business.

The new RPS constraint-based alignment method allows the user to "lock" key points in the model to the corresponding inspection data. This type of inspection is commonly used in the automotive industry to give priority to key attachment points during the quality control process.

The number of native CAD files that can be used with PowerINSPECT has been extended to include AutoCAD's DXF and DWG formats. The full range now covers all the mainstream CAD systems, including CATIA, SDRC, Unigraphics and Pro/Engineer, as well as standard formats like IGES, Parasolid, STEP and STL files.

"PowerINSPECT has become established as the preferred inspection solution for both large and small companies because it offers considerable advantages over alternative inspection software" claimed Delcam's PowerINSPECT Product Manager Chris Lawrie. "Firstly, it is completely hardware independent, allowing companies with a variety of inspection devices to use the same software on all their equipment. Secondly, it can meet all the different inspection needs, including checking of geometric features, sections and edges, as well as surfaces."

"Thirdly, the software is extremely flexible. Reports with pictorial, graphical and tabulated data can be produced to recognised international standards or in any customer-specified format. This flexibility ensures that the resulting reports can be easily understood by everyone involved in collecting or analysing inspection data."
