Inline Fiber Optic Sensor is NEMA 6 / IP67 rated.

Press Release Summary:

Designed to be used without enclosure, model FI22 offers snap-mount bracket and adhesive mounting method. Setup is accomplished via visible light beam and real-time feedback of 8-segment LED bargraph display. Unit features push-button 1 or 2-point static, and 2-point dynamic TEACH programming as well as manual adjustment mode. Unit operates from 10 to 30 Vdc and includes reverse polarity protection, two 100 mA solid state outputs, and transient voltage protection.

Original Press Release:

Rugged, Miniature Fiber Optic Sensor Rated IP67 for Compact Point of Use Mounting

Minneapolis, MN-October, 11 2002-Banner Engineering Corp. has announced the new FI22 inline fiber optic sensor. Unlike typical fiber optic amplifiers, this sensor is designed to be used without an enclosure and does not require DIN-rail mounting. Instead, it features a unique snap-mount bracket and adhesive mounting method for infinite location flexibility. It's rugged, lightweight, low-profile plastic housing and IP67 environmental rating make it ideal for surface-mounting directly on a machine. When used with Banner STEELSKIN(TM) high-flex stainless steel-sheathed fibers, this "system" provides a robust alternative to expensive and bulkier glass fiber optic systems.

Accurate setup is easy with the visible light beam and the real-time feedback of an 8-segment LED bargraph display. The FI22 features extremely simple, push-button single or two-point static, and two-point dynamic TEACH programming, plus a manual adjustment mode for fine-tuning. Single-point static TEACH defines a sensing window centered on a single taught condition and is accomplished in static mode. Dynamic TEACH is used to program the sensor "on-the-fly" during actual machine-run conditions by taking multiple samples of the light-and-dark conditions and automatically setting the threshold at the required level. Setup instructions are printed on the snap-mount bracket for easy reference.

The easy-to-see bargraph displays bright LEDs, providing the user continuous feedback during setup and operation, including relative received signal strength, sensing contrast, programming status, and diagnostic warnings. For maximum efficiency and convenience, one or more sensors can be programmed from an external switch or PLC, via a remote TEACH wire. For added security, the wire can also be used to disable the push buttons. Disabling the push buttons prevents undesired tampering by unauthorized personnel.

Especially significant is the mounting flexibility of the unit. It's small size and rugged construction when incorporated with highly flexible abrasion resistant Banner STEELSKIN(TM) stainless steel-sheathed plastic fibers allows for surface mounting directly on the outside of a machine.

The unit operates from 10 to 30V dc, and includes reverse polarity protection, two 100 mA solid state outputs (Bipolar: one NPN and one PNP), and transient voltage protection. It features a rugged housing, rated IEC IP67 and NEMA 6. Users can choose from a 2 m (6.5') 5-conductor PVC cable, a 9 m (30') PVC cable, or 6-pin integral Pico-style quick disconnect. Prices begin at $79.00
