Videojet's Excel DN Ink Jet Printer Delivers High-Speed, Multi-Line Codes from Single Printhead

WOOD DALE, Ill. (USA) - October 3, 2006 - The new Videojet Excel® DN ink jet printer from Videojet Technologies Inc. is ideal for customers who want to print multi-line variable codes and messages at high speeds. The printer allows users to reliably print two lines of code at speeds up to 916 feet per minute (279 m/min.), and print up to a total of eight lines of information. The Excel DN easily handles complex codes, such as those that combine text, logos and even bar codes into a single message.

"The new Excel DN printer addresses the expanding needs of the marketplace by offering a greater number of lines of print at line speeds today's manufacturers demand," says Scott Benigni, product manager for Videojet. "For example, food companies in Europe need to print the CEE oval logo on their products along with standard lot, date and expiration codes. The Excel DN is perfectly suited for this application."

Other industries can benefit from the Excel DN's expanded capabilities, as well. Canning customers can utilize the ¼-inch code height capability to print on cans. The codes need to be machine readable, allowing for use of vision systems to automatically read the contents of the can and ensure the right label gets on the right product in the warehouse. The Excel DN also can accommodate steel manufacturers who need to print similar size characters on steel products at line speeds over 600ft./min.

The Videojet Excel DN is the fastest multi-line printer in the Excel family of reliable, industry-proven ink jet printers for variable data printing. The printer delivers high-quality, multi-line codes from a single printhead for a wide variety of industries, including food and beverage, canning, building supplies, automotive and other high-speed applications.

An updated electronics package includes a WYSIWYG display, logo creation and CompactFlash® memory cards that simplify setup, backup, cloning and upgrading to multiple units. The bright backlit display makes reading easy, even from a distance. The Excel DN also features on-board logo capability to create logos for regulatory requirements, branding and product decoration.

A large portfolio of high-performance CIJ inks - more than 70 formulations (totaling over 135 fluids) and encompassing more than 20 patents - are immediately available for the Excel DN printer. Included in this ink selection are fluids specially suited for polyethylene and flexible polypropylene films, condensation-penetrating highly durable black and yellow ink for bottles and cans, direct-to-food, egg shells and water washable inks. Also available are oil-penetrating, environmentally benign, UV cure, high-contrast microsphere, and invisible UV fluorescing inks.
