CATERPILLAR INCREASES RATING ON 3126B INDUSTRIAL ENGINE


PEORIA, IL - Caterpillar offers high performance while meeting emissions standards with the new 3126B, 300 hp industrial engine. This new rating gives the 3126B its highest rating with an increase of 25 hp. The 7.2-liter engine will begin production in March 2002, and will initially be used in ag mobile applications, spreading to a wider range of applications in time.

The 3126B is a six-cylinder engine offering the Caterpillar ADEM(TM) III controller and HEUI(TM) fuel system. The ADEM III is an electronic control module (ECM) that provides more control input and output allowing additional features to be added or parameters controlled and monitored.

Caterpillar's patented HEUI fuel system utilizes hydraulically actuated, electronically controlled unit injectors and allows complete, adjustment-free electronic control of fuel injection pressure, timing and duration. This provides greater flexibility
for programmed electronic control strategies that determine engine performance and emissions control characteristics.

The 3126B is also available in 175 - 275 hp, and is rated 2100 - 2500 rpm for industrial applications.
