Rockwell Automation Introduces Windows CE Industrial Computer

Bridges the gap between simple embedded terminals and robust, full-featured industrial computer systems

MILWAUKEE, Feb. 27, 2003 -Rockwell Automation has expanded its Allen-Bradley VersaView industrial computer line with the new VersaView CE industrial computer, combining the Microsoft Windows CE platform with rugged computer hardware designed specifically for industrial applications. VersaView CE is a dependable, open platform computing solution ideal for human machine interface (HMI), customized applications, information management, and remote terminal applications in situations where users need the flexibility to customize or use third-party software programs but don't necessarily want the full functionality of an industrial computer.

"VersaView CE bridges the functionality gap between embedded terminals and traditional industrial computers running full-scale Windows installations," said Mark Weiland, product manager, Rockwell Automation. "It provides end-users and OEMs the flexibility to use application specific or tailored software packages while still benefiting from the ease of use and economical cost typically found in embedded terminals." For optimal industrial implementation and high performance, the Allen-Bradley VersaView CE uses an Intel Celeron 650 MHz processor and 256 MB of both flash and RAM memory. It has no moving parts such as fans or hard drives, making it ideal for traditional industrial and other rugged application environments where reliability can be an issue. To meet a range of operator and application requirements, VersaView CE computers are available with 6.5-, 10.4- 12.1- or 15-inch TFT active matrix color displays with multiple keypad and touch screen options.

The VersaView CE computers come pre-loaded with Rockwell Software RSView Machine Edition runtime and can support applications such as Microsoft Internet Explorer, terminal services for thin-client applications and a software development kit (SDK) for C++ and Visual Basic. These software tools provide everything necessary to develop a local machine HMI interface and integrate it with enterprise-level systems.
