Rugged MagRes Magnetic Incremental Encoder Designed to Monitor Speed and Slip on Train Wheels

Baumer Electric has designed an extremely rugged version of the MagRes Magnetic Incremental Encoder to monitor speed and slip on the wheels of trains, transit vehicles and heavy equipment. Used on each axis of the vehicle and mounted directly onto the wheel hub, the encoder features a cast iron and graphite housing that is robust, maintenance-free, nearly impervious to liquids, and NEMA4 protected.
An innovative sensor for monitoring safety and maintenance issues including traction control and antilock braking, the Mass Transit MagRes has a speed range from 0 to 1500 rpm. This single turn incremental encoder operates optimally in temperatures from -30ºC to 85ºC. With a 6-inch diameter and 3-inch depth, the device mounts easily into the outer wheel hub and is designed to withstand high levels of shock and vibration. A robust cable featuring a specially designed connector, cable gland and protective cover will not kink, crease or bend under extreme operating conditions, ensuring that critical safety and performance data reaches the host computer.
The Mass Transit MagRes features a redundant signal output that allows the controller to easily verify the encoder's output data. The encoder is insensitive to contamination and condensation and will operate reliably for years in high stress operating environments.
