IEEE-1394b Digital Camera features fiber optic interface.

Press Release Summary:

FireWire-based, Model CV1280F includes fiber-optic interface that provides cable lengths up to 500 m. DCAM 1.3-compliant unit is suited for security installations, traffic monitoring, and applications requiring intrinsic resistance to EMI interference. It is also useful in robotic applications since fiber optic cable can undergo repeated flexing without failure.

Prosilica Inc. Introduces 1394b-over-Fiber Camera

CV1280F - Worlds First IEEE-1394b Camera with Fiber Optic Interface

Vancouver, BC - April 23, 2004 - Today, Prosilica announced the availability of the world's first IEEE-1394b camera operating over fiber optic cable. The CV1280F is based on the acclaimed CV1280 DCAM-compliant 1394 camera that Prosilica began shipping earlier this year but with fiber optic cable directly from the camera. The CV1280F has the same high-performance specifications of its predecessor, but now includes a fiber-optic interface that provides cable lengths up to 500 meters. This is remarkable because until now, Firewire-based cameras (IEEE-1394) have been limited to 4.5 meter cable length. Customers with applications requiring especially long cable length, such as security installations, traffic monitoring, and those requiring the intrinsic resistance to EMI interference will view the introduction of the CV1280F as a significant event. Also, the CV1280F will be a especially useful in robotic applications of digital cameras because the fiber optic cable can undergo repeated flexing without failure.

"The CV1280F demonstrates once again Prosilica's innovation and excellent engineering," said Marty Furse, CEO of Prosilica. "The combined features of high-resolution, fast frame-rates, DCAM 1.3 compliance, advanced functions and versatility make the CV1280F a clear winner!"

CV1280F to be shown at the Vision East Show

Prosilica will show the CV1280F operating on a laptop computer at the Vision East Show in Boston, MA on May 4 - 6, 2004. Visitors to the show are encouraged to come and talk with Steve Prescesky, President and Marty Furse, CEO about Prosilica products.

Prosilica Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets high-performance digital cameras for industrial applications.
