ICG Communications Launches Metro Ethernet

Service Will Be Available in More Than 500 Buildings in Colorado and Ohio
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Nov. 10 /-- ICG Communications (ICG) announced today that it has launched its Metro Ethernet service.
The service will be available in more than 300 buildings in Colorado, and in over 200 buildings in Ohio that are connected to ICG's extensive fiber network. These connected buildings are considered to be on-net.
"Our Metro Ethernet service offers a wide range of applications for carriers, medium to large enterprise customers and companies that have Internet-intensive business models," said Matt Erickson, ICG's vice president of marketing and product management.
ICG's Metro Ethernet is a flexible transport (broadband) service that provides connectivity across a local metropolitan geography using the Ethernet protocol. This gives customers the ability to economically support bandwidth intensive applications such as Internet access, LAN/WAN interconnection, IP-VPN and off-site data backup for disaster recovery.
"Metro Ethernet also allows SMBs to get 10 times the amount of reliable bandwidth (of a T1 in an on-net building) for only twice the price," Erickson added.
Metro Ethernet is offered in speeds ranging from 10 megabytes to one gigabyte in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint configurations. Since Ethernet is a widely used LAN protocol, Metro Ethernet is becoming the network connectivity option of choice for many localized companies that demand a significant amount of bandwidth.
More than a dozen customers have already signed up for the service in Colorado.
