Sealevel Systems Introduces Eight Port, Low Profile PCI Serial I/O Adapter

Liberty, SC (January 20th, 2003) - Sealevel Systems, Inc. announces the introduction of the ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI, an eight-port, Low Profile PCI bus serial I/O adapter that offers the highest serial port count available in a Low Profile format.

The ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI provides eight RS-232 ports, allowing connection to PLC's, bar code readers, scales and other data acquisition/control devices. The Low Profile form factor is especially useful in applications where space is at a premium such as 1U Servers, Thin Clients, and Net Appliance applications. Also, many of today's latest desktop computers are designed to minimize space requirements and will only accept Low Profile compatible cards

Designed using the XR16C850 UART, the ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI supports standard PC data rates and boasts a top speed of 460.8K bps. The board provides a 128-byte FIFO, 16 times larger than boards designed with 16C550 parts, to allow error free operation even in high-speed applications

Connection to the board is made through a high-density 68-pin connector. A single fan-out cable provides connection to each serial port through an individual DB-25 male connector, so no bulky external connector box is necessary.

At 2.536" tall, the ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI meets the requirements for the MD1 Low Profile specification as defined by PCISIG in PCI 2.2 "Low Profile Addendum." Sealevel Systems, Inc. ships each adapter with both the Low Profile bracket and the standard size PCI slot bracket, offering the customer compatibility with either size PCI slot. The ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI also features a Universal Bus as required by PCISIG specification 2.3, allowing compatibility with today's new 3.3V computers as well as older 5V systems.

ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI ships with Sealevel Systems' SeaCOM(TM) suite of Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP drivers. Sealevel also Includes WinSSD, a full-featured application providing powerful testing and diagnostic capabilities. Use WinSSD for BERT (Bit Error Rate Testing), throughput monitoring, loopback tests, and transmit test pattern messages.

In addition to Windows drivers and utilities, SeaCOM(TM) includes drivers, utilities, application notes, and technical details to simplify installations in DOS, QNX, and LINUX.

The ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI, product number 7803, is available immediately from stock. Price is $399.00 in low volume warranty quantities, and like all Sealevel products, the ULTRA COMM+8.LPCI is backed by a lifetime warranty.
