Huawei's Intelligent Optical Networks Pass OIF's Interoperability Tests

[Berlin, German, September 28, 2007] Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
(Huawei), a leader in providing next generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, today announced that its intelligent optical networks have successfully passed the Worldwide Interoperability Tests set by the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) The results of the tests are to be announced formally at the ECOC (European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication Conference) where Huawei is expected to be the only vendor worldwide to have passed all the requirements of the tests.

The goal of the OIF's interoperability tests are to promote the development of intelligent global optical networks and to provide end-to-end optical services. Huawei's intelligent optical equipment has been certified as being interoperable with the likes of the top industrial equipment supplies in both service and signaling. In addition, Huawei's routers have passed the Bandwidth on Demand (BOD) test and Huawei has been recognized as providing the most complicated bandwidth adjustability service during the BOD test.

The OIF held the Worldwide Interoperability Tests in Asia, Europe and North America, with seven of the world's largest telecommunications carriers present, including AT&T, China Telecom, Deutsch Telecom, France Telecom Group, KDDI, Telecom Italia and Verizon. The test items mainly focused on UNI (User-to-Network Interface) 2.0 and E-NNI (External Network-to-Network Interface). Huawei's success in passing these aspects of the test demonstrate that the UNI/ENNI functions of intelligent optical network have grown mature and that the scale of ASONs (Automatic Switching Optical Networks) is likely to extend from single domains to multiple domains.

"As a partner of global telecommunications carriers, Huawei remains committed to promoting network interoperability helping carriers to reduce their Capex and Opex." said Yin xuquan, president of Huawei's Optical Network product line. "Passing all the requirements of the OIF's interoperability tests demonstrate that Huawei's intelligent optical networks have grown mature and can be applied on a large-scale basis."

Since 1998 Huawei has been engaged in the development of ASON standards and technology. In 2003, Huawei issued the only end-to-end ASON solution in the industry and to date Huawei's ASON products have been applied in 80 carrier networks that spread from Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa. Huawei provides solutions for carriers to help them construct a highly efficient and reliable transport networks and the company successfully cooperates with the likes of China telecom, France Telecom Group and Telecom Italia.

About OIF
Launched in April of 1998, the OIF is the only industry group uniting representatives from data and optical networking disciplines, including many of the world's leading carriers, component manufacturers and system vendors. The OIF promotes the development and deployment of interoperable networking solutions and services through the creation of Implementation Agreements (IAs) for optical, interconnect, network processing and component technologies, and optical networking systems.
