New Varian, Inc. HPLC Columns Deliver Highest Resolution for Analytical R&D and QC Applications

ORLANDO, Fla., March 13 /-- Today at PITTCON(R) 2006, Varian, Inc. (NASDAQ:VARI) announced the addition of the Pursuit(R) XRs line of maximum resolution HPLC (high performance liquid chromatography) columns for reverse phase analysis to its family of laboratory consumable products.

Combining advanced bonding technologies with extremely high surface area 100- Angstrom silica, the new Pursuit XRs columns are designed to provide ultra-high resolution separations, enabling scientists to obtain more information and produce superior results for the most demanding research and development (R&D), production, and quality control (QC) applications. Analytical R&D and QC chemists use HPLC columns for the development of methods aimed at understanding and assuring the quality of compounds as diverse as drug candidates and products, environmental pollutants, agricultural materials, and food products, among others.

Offering measurably better resolution, the Pursuit XRs enables precise and accurate first-time resolution and quantification of complex mixtures, speeding up method development and validation. Additionally, the Pursuit XRs columns are exceptionally stable, allowing QC labs to achieve the highest level of column performance for potentially thousands of injections. The column's stable chemical surface ensures pure interactions with target analytes, avoiding problems commonly caused by uncontrolled residual silanols and metal contaminants. Delivering run-to-run consistency, Pursuit XRs eliminates costly re-runs and improves laboratory throughput.

Pursuit XRs technology advances also radically increase column endurance. Tested under extremely challenging conditions, the Pursuit XRs shows no evidence of degradation, even after more than 5000 sample injections.

"Varian is committed to working with our customers to develop consumable solutions that enhance method development and lab productivity," says Martin O'Donoghue, senior vice president, Scientific Instruments, Varian, Inc. "With the introduction of the Pursuit XRs, we have extended our Pursuit HPLC column family to give customers the consumable options they need for their labs, whether they are looking for superior resolution or high throughput and maximum speed."

The Varian Pursuit XRs HPLC columns are available in C-18, C-8, and Diphenyl phases and can be ordered for immediate shipment.
