Host Bus Adapters support 1, 2, and 4 Gbps operations.

Press Release Summary:

Leveraging Fusion-MPT architecture and LSI Logic LSIFC949X Fibre Channel controller, 4 Gbps Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) feature 64 bit/133 MHz PCI-X bus interface. They are backwards compatible and auto-speed negotiating with 2 Gbps products and legacy 1 Gbps technologies. MyStorage(TM) software provides HBA monitoring as well as load balancing and path failover protection. It also permits control and configuration of any LSI Logic HBA in SAN.

LSI Logic Readies for the 4Gb/s Fibre Channel Transition

-- Plugfest offers opportunity for Fibre Channel vendors to test 4Gb product interoperability and demonstrate compliance.

-- LSI Logic's 4Gb/s Host Bus Adapters, leveraging the Fusion-MPT architecture, prove ready for customer adoption.

MILPITAS, Calif., Feb. 23 -- Continuing its commitment to the 4Gb/s Fibre Channel migration, LSI Logic (NYSE:LSI) recently joined other industry leaders at the industry's first ever 4Gb/s plugfest, as the company brought its 4Gb/s Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters to test for product interoperability and protocol compliance. The January plugfest was sponsored by the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) and the University of New Hampshire (UNH).

Using UNH interoperability laboratory facilities, LSI Logic's 4Gb/s Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) underwent successful testing in both initiator and target modes as the company joined Storage Area Network (SAN) component vendors, including disk drive and fabric switch manufactures in testing activities.

LSI Logic's LSI7204XP-LC HBA also demonstrated backwards compatibility and auto-speed negotiating with current 2Gb/s products and legacy 1Gb/s technologies. These tests assure users of downward compatibility and that their previous Fibre Channel investments are protected as they look to adopt 4Gb/s products and take advantage of the performance benefits.

"As the performance requirements of today's enterprise data center become more and more demanding, LSI Logic strives to deliver technologies that meet the current and future needs of end users," said Charlie Kraus, director of LSI Logic's HBA division. "An essential element in delivering such timely solutions is validating compliance, compatibility and interoperability, underlining the importance of LSI Logic's participation in the FCIA's inaugural 4Gb/s plugfest, as we prepare to bring this technology to the market."

Today, Fibre Channel is the dominant SAN infrastructure. As more IT environments migrate to storage area networks, IT managers will have the opportunity to leverage 4Gb/s technology that delivers twice the performance of the current Fibre Channel generation at approximately the same price point. Industry experts expect 4Gb/s Fibre Channel to have nearly 100% market penetration within the next two years.

LSI Logic's 4Gb/s HBAs leverage the LSI Logic LSIFC949X Fibre Channel controller and feature a 64 bit/133MHz PCI-X bus interface. Supporting 1-2-4Gb/s operations, these HBAs are ideal for storage clustering and deliver optimal performance for SAN applications. LSI Logic's Fibre Channel HBAs are bundled with the company's MyStorage(TM) software, which provides HBA monitoring, load balancing and path failover protection, and allows IT managers to control and configure any LSI Logic HBA in their storage area network in just a few mouse clicks. All LSI Logic Fibre Channel solutions make use of the Fusion-MPT(TM) (Message Passing Technology) architecture to speed product adoption at technology transition points.
