Liberty Precision introduces the EA 2600-3, North America's first 3 Spindle, 5 Axis Horizontal Machining Center
ROCHESTER, NY (November 7, 2003) - Liberty Precision Industries, building on its reputation as the leader in Multiple Spindle Technology, has introduced the new EA 2600-3 horizontal machining center (HMC). The EA 2600-3 is North America's first 3 spindle, 5 axis HMC that is designed and manufactured to serve the automotive industry's need for flexible, high volume production.
Application/Industry
Typical parts machined on the EA 2600-3 are long extruded aluminum structural automotive components. Liberty has also found the EA-2600 to be fitting for some aerospace applications.
Travels/Configuration
The EA 2600-3 has three spindles mounted vertically in a traveling column configuration. The column has 630mm (24.80") of "Z" axis stroke and travels on a long 2600mm (102.36") "X" axis bed that provides the flexibility to machine both short and long parts. The three spindle carrier located within the column has 350mm (13.78") of "Y" axis travel. Beneath the traveling column is an optional "B" axis rotary table that provides one of the machine's two rotary axis. The second rotary axis is supplied by three "A" axis NC rotary tables mounted on a trunnion-style part swapper.
Spindles
The three high performance spindles are liquid cooled with thru-tool coolant and feature 19 kW at 40% duty cycle. The spindles are equipped for 15,000 RPM and have a CAT 40 spindle taper. Spindle centerlines are 320mm (12.59").
Part Swapper
One of the most unique features of the EA 2600 is its trunnion style, two station part swapping system. The outboard station enables part load/unload during machining sequences to keep spindle utilization high. The system is guarded to ensure operator safety and is designed with overhead clearance that permits part load/unload with a hoist or automation.
Coolant/ATC/Control System
The machine features a self-contained coolant system with an operating capacity of 625 gallons. It is a roller pull-out design that is adaptable to in-floor coolant systems. The EA-2600-3's automatic tool changer is a carousel style system that supports12 tools per spindle. The control system is an Indramat MTC-200.
