Toyoda Machinery Shows HMC for Heavy Cutting and 5-Axis Machining at IMTS 2002

Arlington Heights -- June 1, 2002 -- Toyoda's FA630 horizontal machining center relies on its solid spindle and boxway design for maximum rigidity in heavy-cutting applications.

The standard 40 hp, direct drive 50-taper spindle provides infinitely variable speeds between 15 and 6000 rpm. It is also available with a 5000 rpm geared headstock for high-torque, low rpm applications. These speeds, coupled with an extremely flat power curve, makes the FA630 equally effective in removing hardened steels or non-ferrous material.

Toyoda's boxway design allows the FA630 to reach cutting and positioning speeds of 1417 ipm. A special pressurized lubrication system rests the loaded pallets on a micro-thin (0.00012 in.) film of lubricant. Constant pressure, both in movement and at rest, levels dynamic effects and eliminates "float" to achieve instant acceleration.

The construction of the spindle cartridge complements the boxway design with the capacity for thrust loads up to 3,300 lbs. The housing is supported near the taper by a set of three premium angular contact bearings for maximum rigidity and power without deflection. Oil cooled and automatically lubricated throughout,
the one-piece construction insulates the bearings from contamination.

Tools up to 33 lbs are exchanged in less than two seconds, with the heaviest 60 lb tools taking just under three. Dual pallets keep the spindle in cut, reducing change-over to the next part to 11 seconds, with loads up to 2800 lbs.

*Toyoda will demonstrate heavy steel milling and five axis machining on the FA630 - at booth #8018 during IMTS 2002.
