Mitsui Seiki Introduces High Precision Machining Center Aimed at Contract Shops

(Chicago, IL - September 8 - 15, 2004) The new HW63A horizontal machining center from Mitsui Seiki, designed for exceptional rigidity and stiffness, is targeted at high precision job shops. "Mitsui is primarily known for very high-end, ultra-precise machine tools for aerospace, automotive and other complex, tough-material parts," says Scott Walker, President of Mitsui Seiki USA, Inc. "This machine is a well-constructed traditional Mitsui Seiki machine and incorporates double ball screws on all axes for high speed performance and superior positioning for the most demanding job shop applications requiring heavy material removal." While its X, Y, Z axes envelope is 1000 mm x 800 mm x 800 mm for large workpieces, the HW63A has a space-saving footprint.

The primary features and benefits of this new offering from Mitsui include a 3-point leveling cast iron bed for superior stiffness and rigidity, permitting high speed, high performance milling, drilling, and boring in a wide range of materials. Dual ballscrews in all linear axes provide improved motion control and high axis thrust for heavy cutting in tough materials. The main construction components are F.E.A. designed for excellent rigidity, stiffness, and thermal characteristics. This provides a superior platform for geometric accuracy and consistent, very high machining precision for the life of the machine tool. Steel box slide ways, mounted to hand-scraped surfaces, feature the new G-II lubrication system, contributing to high feed rates and ultra-smooth motion. There are also helpful design attributes of the machine with regard to easy machine access for both operators and maintenance personnel

Additional key specifications include X, Y, Z axes rapid traverse and cutting feed rates of 48 m/min (1,890 ipm). The machine has a 40/30 hp high-power, high torque built in spindle, with an optional 15,000 rpm (6,000 rpm standard). Glass scale feedback systems on the three axes offer 0.001 mm (0.000039") resolution.
