Hofer Austria to Field Test Carrier Corp.'s CO2OLtec(TM) Refrigeration System

CO2 Solution Advances Food Retailer's Sustainable Strategy
PARIS - Carrier Corp. is partnering with Hofer Austria, a discount food retailer and affiliate of ALDI SUD Group, to field test Carrier's CO2OLtec(TM) refrigeration system. A winner of the prestigious Environmental Pioneer Award of the Cooling Industry in the United Kingdom, the CO2OLtec refrigeration system significantly reduces energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions versus traditional supermarket refrigeration systems with R404A refrigerant. In 2009, ALDI SUD Germany made a forward-looking decision to pursue an environmentally sound long-term strategy. In all new German stores, natural refrigerants will be used exclusively. The goal for those stores will be realized with Carrier as a partner for the equipment, providing the CO2OLtec refrigeration systems.
As an affiliate of ALDI SUD Germany, Hofer Austria is also focused on environmental stewardship and is committed to considerably reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As part of this effort, Hofer Austria will field test Carrier's CO2OLtec technology in Linz, Austria, beginning in mid- 2010. The test will enable Hofer to gain experience with Carrier's CO2OLtec refrigeration system.

CO2OLtec technology achieved an environmental breakthrough by using CO2 as a refrigerant to significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions. Today, Carrier leads with the number of CO2 refrigerant installations for commercial refrigeration. While Carrier has the right refrigerant solution for every application, not every application will have the same refrigerant solution. CO2OLtec is a unique system for Carrier's food retail customers in Europe looking to decrease their CO2 footprint through innovative refrigeration systems.
