Stackpole Introduces Low Profile, High Current Inductor

RALEIGH, NC (September 8, 2005) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has introduced a new series of power choke inductors. Designated the PCMC Series, this inductor provides design engineers with high saturation currents and operational frequencies, as well as low losses due to DCR, in a low profile shielded SMD package.

With sizes ranging from 13.8 mm by 12.6 mm and down to 7.3 mm by 6.5 mm, with profiles as low as 3 mm, the PCMC Series is ideal for DC-to-DC conversion in portable devices. Inductance values for the PCMC Series range from .10 uH up to 4.7 uH, with DCR as low as .68 mohm, and DC current capability of up to 55 amps. Standard tolerance for this product is 20%, yet tighter tolerances are available.

Stackpole Product Engineering Manager Kory Schroeder commented on the introduction of the PCMC Series in saying, "the world of portable electronics has enjoyed significant growth in recent years. The increasing requirements for added functions, less power consumption, and downsizing have created a significant challenge to the engineering community. With the PCMC, Stackpole has provided an efficient, high power choke with miniature dimensions -- all of which allow for greater design flexibility."

Typical applications include graphics cards, field programmable logic, voltage regulation modules, point of load converters, and DC to DC converters in laptops, notebooks, and tablet PCs.

The PCMC series is RoHS compliant with lead-free 100% matte tin terminations and is available in the values listed in the following grid:
