Heavy Duty Slurry Pump Employs High Chrome Wear Parts; Reduces Operating and Maintenance Costs

A high-performance heavy duty submersible pump designed to handle various types of slurries has been introduced by ITT Flygt Corp., Trumbull, CT. Designated as the 5150, the pump is ideal for use in power plants for bottom ash, refineries for petroleum coke, steel manufacturing and most any other application where solid granules are present, which can rapidly erode pump volutes, impellers and other wear parts.

The 5150 slurry pump incorporates a design that not only lowers operating and maintenance costs, but reduces initial investment costs as well. After extensive evaluation of existing slurry pumps, Flygt released the all-new model 5150, designed specifically to handle the most abrasive slurries in a wide spectrum of tough industrial environments. The number of parts in the pump were greatly reduced and the design radically simplified, creating a low maintenance, highly cost effective slurry pump.

To extend the life of the pump and provide reliable operation, all wear parts are made of high chrome. The impeller is designed with the optimum combination of solids-handling capability, wear resistance and pump efficiency. Flygt's unique Spin-out(TM) feature expels abrasive particles from the seal chamber, preventing damage to the outer seal. The Plug-in(TM) seal system permits fast, easy seal replacement.

In order to meet various requirements, the 5150 is available in a wide range of efficient, long-life Class H motor sizes. Capable of handling 15 starts per hour, built-in sensors warn against high temperatures and stator leakage.

An inspection chamber between the seal unit and bearings employs a built-in sensor for early detection of any fluid build-up, reducing the risk of internal damage and increasing reliability. An optional internal cooling system permits the pump to operate semi-submerged. It will continue pumping down to low slurry levels, helping prevent sediment build-ups.

The Victaulic(TM) flange connection allows for quick and easy connection to a wide range of commonly used fittings. Despite its slim size, the 105 Hp model develops up to 260 feet of head, and can deliver up to 3,300 GPM through its 6" discharge.

In order to move slurries more effectively, an optional built-in agitator ensures maximum agitation, which helps to keep sumps clean and the pump suction clear of solids. For even greater agitation, a Flygt mixer can be mounted directly on the side of the pump.
