FCI Designs HDMI Receptacle for the Consumer Electronic Market

ETTERS, Pa. (August 1, 2005) - FCI, a leading supplier of connectors and interconnect systems, has developed a connector to support the next-generation interface for consumer electronic products such as digital televisions, DVD players, and set-top boxes. The high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) utilizes a small, user-friendly connector designed to carry up to 5Gbps of uncompressed video and audio in one cable.

"The HDMI is ideal for the consumer electronic entertainment market," said Sean Riley, FCI regional market manager. "HDMI integrates video and audio into one connector, replacing DVI, which only carries video signaling. The HDMI contains metal shields for better EMI protection and provides low impedance mismatch. The 19 position, surface mount terminated receptacle also comes with the option of a panel-mount flange. "

The connector is rated for 10,000 mating cycles. FCI's HDMI receptacle is RoHS compliant and uses gold plating in the contact area.

Typical pricing for the receptacle is $1.20 at 1000 pieces with a four week lead-time.
