Overview

IBM extends its line of outstanding HDD upgrade options with new 80 GB1 and 160 GB Serial ATA HDDs for selected models of ThinkCentre(TM) systems4.

Realize the full potential of your serial ATA-enabled system by installing a Serial ATA HDD option. Improved cabling simplifies installation, and the 150 MB/s instantaneous data transfer rate is a 50% improvement over previous parallel ATA technology.

Ontrack Disk Manager 2000, an easy-to-use drive installation software package5, is now included with all IBM single-packed desktop EIDE HDDs. Disk Manager 2000 facilitates data migration so upgrade customers can benefit from the performance advantages of the new drive. The software is in CD-ROM format6 with installation instructions in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The 80 GB and 160 GB Serial ATA HDDs feature S.M.A.R.T., which can warn of predictable impending hard drive failure. S.M.A.R.T. is compatible with IBM Rapid Restore(TM) PC (Enterprise Edition) software, available separately, which can perform unattended backup of customer data from the drive before failure. Drives predicting failure within the limited warranty period are eligible for warranty replacement.

The 80 GB and 160 GB Serial ATA HDDs benefit from outstanding IBM drive quality, reliability, compatibility, and testing program. As one of the premier PC system manufacturers, IBM installs millions of HDDs per year. Ongoing quality management in support of this product provides IBM options customers with drives continually selected from among the highest-quality HDDs available.

Offered with a three-year limited warranty, this drive assumes the warranty terms of the IBM PC system in which it is installed. This means that when installed into some IBM PCs, the drive may be eligible for onsite service for up to three years.

2 Up to 384 KB reserved for drive firmware.

3 Data rates vary depending on many factors and are often less than the maximum possible.

4 Serial ATA drives require Serial ATA capability on the system board or an attached adapter card.

5 Some software may differ from its retail version (if available), and may not include user manuals or all program functionality. For non-IBM software, applicable third-party software licenses may apply. Warranty service and support for non-IBM products, if any, are provided by third parties, not IBM.
