Lapping Tolerances with Grinding Speed
Melchiorre S.R.L., Milan Italy is exhibiting its latest ELC series of double side fine grinding machines at IMTS 2002. Melchiorre machines produce precise lapping tolerances with the speed and cleanliness of traditional grinding equipment.
Machine sizes range from wheel diameters of 500 mm through 1600mm.
Unique machine characteristics include a ball screw and pressure cell down pressure system, in-process direct part contact sizing system, a pneumatically adjustable upper wheel "swivel" bearing and a rigid "C" frame machine base designed for close tolerance work. All machine functions are programmed, stored and monitored via a user-friendly color monitor PLC. Part to part size and
parallelism of 1 micron and flatness of .25 microns is achieved with ease. These exacting tolerances are maintained in a production environment for a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including high alumina ceramic, silicon carbide,
tungsten carbide, stainless steels, powdered metals, plastics, etc. Applications include pump, valve, compressor and hydrostatic transmission components, slitting blades, fuel injection components, flat lenses, precision bearing races, precision tungsten carbide tools, etc.
Fine grinding wheels are available in a variety of abrasives and bonds including AlO2, SiC, CBN and Diamond. Automation for load/unload of parts is available for all systems.
