Greenway's PrimeSUITE Selected for ONC's Clinical Data Direct Project

MedAllies HISP and Greenway Practice Allergy and Asthma Associates of Westchester Combine in Project's Northeast Region; Demonstrations Scheduled Throughout HIMSS11 Conference

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- As part of the national rollout of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology's (ONC) Direct Project, Greenway's integrated electronic health record (EHR), practice management and interoperability solution PrimeSUITE® 2011 has been selected to facilitate secure point to point routing of patient data.

Led by the Fishkill, N.Y.-based Health Information Service Provider MedAllies, Inc., the region's initiative will utilize the specialist medicine and referral capabilities of Greenway® customer site Allergy and Asthma Associates of Westchester, with locations in Scarsdale and Mamaroneck, N.Y.

"We have improved our practice workflows through PrimeSUITE's integration and templating," said James Pollowitz, MD. "This further enhancement of our EHR will also positively impact patient care and our ability to coordinate patient care. We are gratified that the capabilities of this practice were recognized by MedAllies and Greenway for the Direct Project." Allergy and Asthma is a three-provider practice utilizing PrimeSUITE since 2009.

The Direct Project seeks to establish a secure and interoperable health IT infrastructure nationwide for the scalable routing of patient data to support care coordination and transition of care settings through standards-based messaging among providers, hospitals and labs.

MedAllies provides a specialist and referral provider database and the addressing and routing capabilities from within EHR systems, according to CEO A. John Blair III, MD.

"The interoperable transfer of secure health information is essential to enable the success of new models of improved health care delivery, such as the patient-centered medical home and accountable care organizations," Blair said. "The Direct Project ensures that clinicians have the critical information they need to enhance care coordination and improve care transitions, available where they need it and when they need it." MedAllies is working with multiple health IT capabilities as one of the first seven Direct Project sites to launch this month.

At the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Annual Conference and Exhibition, February 21 - 24 in Orlando, Fla., a series of demonstrations of the Direct Project collaboration between PrimeSUITE, MedAllies and Allergy and Asthma Associates of Westchester is scheduled.

The closed loop demonstration will route primary care provider (PCP) consultation and referral data to Allergy and Asthma specialists, and then back to the PCP by capturing active medications, problem list, referral objectives and other pertinent information. Upon go live, EHR routing will include administrative data such as patient registration, coverage and appointment scheduling in the seamless transmissions. Demonstrations are scheduled at the HIMSS11 Interoperability Showcase, Break the Barriers to Interoperable Healthcare (Booth #7343, Hall E),as well as withinONC/Federal Health Architecture and MedAllies HIMSS theater presentations.

"Greenway is proud to be a driver within the Direct Project's practical advancement of patient care and the realizations of a nationwide health information network," said President and CEO Tee Green. "We understood during the development of PrimeSUITE that integrated, interoperable solutions were key to this advancement. We are doubly proud that Greenway customers, whether primary care or specialists practices, have the capability and the willingness to be involved in this important initiative. Many of the tenets of Direct are intertwined with meaningful use criteria and the ability for our customers to achieve maximum incentive funds."

Meaningful use criteria categories for certified EHRs such as referrals, patient health information, discharge instructions, clinical summaries and reminders, public health immunization registries, syndromic surveillance and summary of care record for patient empowerment and care coordination are encompassed within the capabilities of Direct.
