DALSA Coreco Launches the Genie(TM) Line of Gigabit Ethernet Digital Cameras with the Introduction of the Genie-M640 for Industrial Imaging

New Camera to be showcased at VISION 2005 in Stuttgart, Germany

STUTTGART, GERMANY (November 8, 2005) -VISION 2005 Tradeshow - DALSA Coreco (a division of DALSA Corporation -TSX: DSA), a leading developer of high-performance machine vision components and services, today announced the launch of its Genie line of gigabit Ethernet (GigE) digital cameras. The DALSA Coreco Genie cameras are affordable, easy-to-use digital cameras designed specifically for industrial imaging applications. The Genie-M640 is the first camera to be introduced and will be showcased during VISION 2005 at DALSA Coreco's stand #616.

"Digital camera technology delivers superior image quality enabling enhanced measurement accuracy," said Philip Colet, Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, DALSA Coreco. "All analog signals must be digitized before image processing and analysis can be performed. With analog cameras this digitization is performed externally (i.e. by a frame grabber), while in digital cameras the digitization takes place in the camera. The benefits of in-camera digitization include better signal-to-noise ratios as well as superior image accuracy."

Genie cameras are based on high quality, highly sensitive CCD and CMOS sensors and will be available in variety of resolutions ranging from 640 x 480 to 1600 x 1200 in both color and monochrome formats. Genie cameras combine standard gigabit Ethernet technology with DALSA Coreco's Trigger to Image Reliability framework to dependably capture and transfer images from the camera to the host PC. Their compact size allows easy integration into most image processing systems. Color Genie cameras feature white balancing and advanced Bayer conversion to produce crisp and accurate color images.

Genie-M640
The Genie-M640 uses a CCD, monochrome sensor with a resolution of 640 x 480. Operating at a maximum of 60 frames per second the Genie-M640 takes full advantage of gigabit Ethernet technology, transmitting data over standard CAT-5e and CAT-6 cables to distances of up to 100m. Like all Genie cameras, the M640 is based on the pending AIA (Automated Imaging Association) GigE Vision Standard to directly link the camera to a PC.

"The GigE Vision Standard is something that will greatly simplify image acquisition for industrial and medical imaging applications," added Colet. "DALSA Coreco is at the forefront of adopting this standard and developing product that leverages its potential."

Software
All Genie cameras are supported by DALSA Coreco's Sapera(TM) LT software libraries featuring CamExpert for simplified camera set-up and configuration. Sapera LT has been field proven in ten's of thousands industrial applications. Hardware independent, Sapera LT delivers the same reliable performance regardless of the image acquisition device being used. This unique feature allows OEM's to start using the Genie without re-writing the application. In addition, Sapera LT includes powerful diagnostics and setup utilities for application development, custom camera configurations and system deployment.

"As soon as a Genie camera is connected to the system, it is automatically identified and all supported features are communicated to the Sapera LT environment," Says Eric Carey, Genie Product Manager. "Camera setup and configuration is quick and easy performed using CamExpert. The Genie cameras also feature an embedded test image to ensure the network viability and simplify system setup."

Genie Camera Key Features:
· Global Shutter - eliminates image blur due to motion
· Partial Scan - to capture objects at rates faster than the standard frame rate of the sensor
· Triggered Capture - features several modes of image capture control
· Lookup Tables - used for image thresholding, gamma correction or basic pixel format conversion, simplifying subsequent image processing steps.
· Real-Time Shading Correction - To overcome image artifacts caused by non-uniform illumination
· Image Buffers and Image Sequences - used to store captured images and image sequences before they are transmitted over the gigabit Ethernet network
· I/O - two opto-isolated inputs (including a camera trigger) and two outputs using solid-state relays (including a strobe), permitting local control over image acquisition and activation
· Visual Status LED - allow developers to instantly recognize if cabling has been correctly set up greatly facilitating the diagnostic process.
· Simplified set-up - with field proven Sapera LT software featuring CamExpert 5.0
