New PowerCommand® Digital Generator Control Offers Enhanced Performance

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - A new PowerCommand® Digital Generator Set Control from Cummins Power Generation offers fully integrated digital voltage regulation, digital governing and generator set protective functions for enhanced reliability and performance. The control is optimized for smaller generator sets and provides such a wide range of control and display features that custom control configurations are virtually eliminated.

"Digital controls are not uncommon on generator sets, but making a fully featured digital control standard on our generator set product line, even down to small 20 and 30 kW machines, is a big change for the industry," says Gary Olson, Technical Council. "Digital controls offer a very broad range of features and benefits, such as easy-to-use operator interfaces, tons of information, and greatly enhanced reliability. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this control is that in spite of all its capabilities, it's actually less complicated and easier to service than more conventional controls."

Cummins is unique in the industry in its capability of designing and manufacturing all the major hardware components in an on-site power system. This high level of integration has led to features that are not commonly available in generator set controls systems, such as inherent short circuit and fault regulation capability, integrated engine fuel management functions that limit smoke on starting and make cold generator sets more stable, and built-in LonWorks(TM) network capability.

The control is suitable for use on a wide range of generator sets, and is particularly well suited for emergency and standby power applications. A hallmark of its design is its ability to be configured in software for many different applications and to economically resolve many facility interface issues.

Cummins Power Generation is a world leader in the design and manufacture of power generation solutions for a wide variety of standby and prime power applications.
