Original Press Release:

Breakthrough In Right Angle Gearing Technology

A breakthrough in advanced gearing geometry at the heart of the new Series B helicoidal gearmotors and reducers has enabled Cone Drive to provide the most flexible and powerful right angle gearing solution currently available.

Conex(TM) helicoidal gearing enables Cone Drive to offer the highest inch pounds of torque per dollar in the smallest package of any right angle gearing solution, with the built in advantage of zero maintenance.

The award-winning Cone Drive engineering team has designed the Series B to specifically meet the demands for a compact, low cost but ultra-reliable unit for use on conveyor handling systems in the paper and packaging industry and small to medium duty manufacturing operations.

The unique Series B Conex helicoidal gear geometry delivers best-in-class power capabilities up to 20HP and maximum output torque capacity of 5,000lb in, with a choice of 10 standard ratios from 5/1 to 60/1.

Series B is offered in single universal gear case sizes 02 to 11 making it easily interchangeable with most other major manufacturers. It is manufactured from a family of modular kits which ensure a high degree of commonality and interchangeability of parts. That means Series B offers the highest availability to fulfil make-or-modify-to-order supply streams, while enabling a drastic reduction in inventory requirements compared to the ranges of other manufacturers.

The units are designed to be close coupled with standard dimension NEMA frame and metric IEC frame motors, and Cone Drive's patented SWIFT motor connection system eliminates fretting corrosion, allowing easy removal of motors to minimise down-time for removal or replacement.

Series B units are factory-sealed and use a high quality synthetic lubricant that eliminates the need for oil level checks, topping up or refilling. This has the advantage of enabling the Series B to be mounted in any location, however inaccessible. Series B comes with a standard 2 year warranty.

A hollow bore is fitted as standard for maximum flexibility; solid output shafts can therefore be fitted allowing left or right hand assembly without dismantling the unit. Double extended output shafts are also available.

Henry Chung, Cone Drive's Business Development Director has overseen the development and introduction of the new unit. He comments: "Cone Drive has a huge expertise in the gear motor market and we identified a specific area where we could apply our know-how and engineering design excellence to improve on what was already on offer.

"More than 4,000 units have so far been sold and installed in the US in the few months since it was made available, making this the Series B one of the most rapid take-ups of new technology ever seen by Cone Drive. That immediate acceptance of a new product backed by proven expertise speaks for itself."

Series B is available immediately in any size and configuration from Authorized Swift Assembly Centers.
