New Gear Machine Technology on Display at IMTS

Elgin, IL.... Reishauer Corporation will introduce a new series of high performance hard gear finishing machines at IMTS in Booth 7005. The new RZ150 High-Performance Gear Grinding Machine utilizes the continuous generating method which incorporates many "new technology" features such as (2) direct drive work spindles, acoustic sensing for alignment of dressing diamonds, automatic fine balancing of the wheel on the grinding spindle and LNS low noise shifting for surface texture enhancements as they're related to gear noise, some of which are patented features.

The RZ150 represents the second completely new Gear Grinder introduced to the US market by Reishauer in less than three years. The general layout of the machine working area was designed to facilitate fast changeovers. Convenient location for the set up of the dressing unit, ergonomic ease of wheel change and almost unlimited restriction of the gear location on the shaft or arbor make the RZ150 very operator friendly. The multi-spindle column that carries the work spindles and dressing spindle rotates 180º to facilitate automatic loading of workpieces as well as housing the diamond roll to perform the wheel dressing activities when called upon.

LNS (low noise shifting), one of the new features of the RZ150 directs the movement of the machine during grinding to produce a random surface texture in the micro-range, which prevents discrete excitations of the ground gear when running with its mate. The purpose of LNS is to reduce gear noise and eliminate the need for subsequent honing for those noise sensitive applications.

Virtually unlimited profile variations are possible using high precision diamond rolls (Reishauer Diamond and CBN Tools Division) to dress the wheel. Through the use of acoustic sensors, the dressing roll is synchronized to the thread on the pre-formed wheel, this not only shortens the alignment process, it also greatly reduces the possibility of damage to the diamond due to operator error.

The RZ150 can be easily adapted to suit a variety of customer specified automatic loading systems giving it even added flexibility in today's workplace. The design is well thought out and occupies a very small area of only 54 ft (excluding filter) making it one of the most compact machines of it's type on the market.

High performance Diamond dressing tools, also manufactured by Reishauer, complete the turnkey process making the RZ150 a natural choice. Many of our customers have already verified that the RZ 150 has become the industry standard for high volume production of ground gears.
