GE Energy to Provide Total Power Plant Control for New India Project
NEW ORLEANS, LA.-December 12, 2007-GE has been awarded a US$2.5 million contract to provide a total plant control system for a project by Adani Power Limited at its Mundra site in District Kutch, Gujarat, India.
With 19.8 percent of the country's total industrial output, Gujarat is the most industrialized state in India and one of the first states to have encouraged private sector investment in the power generation industry. Adani Power's new plant will play a vital role in supporting Gujarat's industrial growth pattern.
GE Energy's optimization and control business will provide an integrated control and protection system that will encompass all subsystems of Adani Power's new power plant process, including turbine controls and protection, burner management system, and plant -wide controls.
Under the scope of the contract, GE will design, manufacture and deliver a complete system, which will provide an OC 4000(TM) distributed control, a digital electro-hydraulic control and emergency trip system for the steam turbine-generator train, and a complete Bently Nevada 3500 series machinery protection system.
"GE's integrated platform will help Adani Power achieve maximum plant reliability while lowering maintenance cost through streamlining system architecture, eliminating potential points of failure, minimizing spare parts requirements and reducing on-going
training for the station's operating personnel," said Brian Palmer, vice president of GE Energy's optimization and control business. "Plus, our short delivery cycle will significantly help Adani Power's overall tight project schedule."
GE Energy collaborated with its globally located application centers and the principal parties involved in the project to develop a winning solution. This included the end user, Adani Power, and the parties from which the contracts were awarded: SCMEC, an EPC company located in Chengdu, China, and responsible for engineering, procurement and construction scope, and Beijing Turbine Works of Beijing, China, the original equipment manufacturer responsible for the supply of the steam turbines.
Some of the equipment shipments have commenced with the plant distributed control system scheduled to ship in first quarter 2008. The first unit of 330 megawatts is scheduled for commercial operation in December 2008.
