NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting System Now Offers Energy Cost-Saving Dimming Option

HENDERSONVILLE, NC - A June 2007 product line extension adds a NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting System with dimming capability to the portfolio of energy cost-saving electronic ballasts offered by GE Lighting Systems, Inc. The new system is a perfect complement to other energy-saving strategies and equipment that lower lighting operating expenses, including daylight harvesting, occupancy sensors and motion controls.

Premium optical technology and superior lumen maintenance in the original and new dimming version of the NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting System enable a significant reduction in energy consumption through the use of fewer fixtures in new construction applications or lower wattage lamps in retrofits.

On top of the lower wattage consumption achieved through its new dimming capability, a NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting System with a pulse-start metal halide lamp offers up to a 60 percent improvement in lamp lumen maintenance versus electromagnetic ballasts with probe-start metal halide lamps. It delivers a 13 percent improvement compared with electromagnetic ballasts with pulse-start metal halide lamps.

Optical mounting versatility is another advantage of NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting Systems. Both the original and new dimming system are engineered to operate in 15 different combinations of high bay, low bay, open or closed prismatic glass, acrylic and high efficiency aluminum reflector applications. NuVation(TM)'s wattage selector switch lets end-users of the original and new dimming ballast employ lamps ranging from 250 to 400 watts. NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting Systems also work with ceramic metal halide lamps, which are often chosen when end-users require improved color rendering and color uniformity in an HID light source.

The efficacy of NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting Systems-expressed as mean light output for energy consumed-is dramatically improved to 87 mean lumens per watt, compared with a 400-watt pulse-start metal halide lamp and electronic ballast (51 mean lumens per watt).

In another example of energy and cost savings made possible with NuVation(TM), 33 percent fewer fixtures would be needed in a new construction project that uses 400-watt pulse-start metal halide lamps with NuVation(TM) electronic ballasts instead of 400-watt probe-start metal halide lamps with electromagnetic ballasts. This delivered equivalent light output and resulted in 37 percent lower energy use and a resulting 41 percent lower cost of ownership for the end-user.

The NuVation(TM) Electronic Ballast Lighting System is available for a wide variety of disconnect series and surface-mount series luminaries. For instance, used with the GE Filterglow® fixture, its universal slide-on wiring mounting provides for multiple mounting options including ¾", rigid pendant, flexible pendant, ceiling mount and thru-feed capability.
