Fairchild Semiconductor's Half-Bridge Gate Drivers Offer Excellent System Reliability for Consumer Appliance, Display and Ballast Applications

FAN7380 and the FAN7382 provide outstanding noise immunity and the industry's lowest temperature dependence and power consumption

South Portland, Maine - March 4, 2005 - Fairchild Semiconductor's (NYSE: FCS) two new high-performance half-bridge gate driver ICs ensure exceptional system reliability and efficiency in consumer and industrial applications. The FAN7380 and FAN7382 significantly improve system reliability by utilizing an innovative common-mode dv/dt noise canceling circuit that provides excellent noise immunity. The components deliver an advanced level shift circuit permitting industry-leading, high-side driver operation with negative VS swings of up to -9 V (@ VBS=15 V). These devices feature the industry's lowest quiescent currents (FAN7380: IQBS = 40 µA (typ), IQCC = 60 µA (typ) and FAN7382: IQBS = 30 µA (typ), IQCC = 70 µA (typ)), resulting in extremely low power consumption. With a voltage capability up to 600 V and a very fast switching speed (dv/dt = 50 V/ns (max)), these devices are optimal for driving MOSFETs and IGBTs in a wide array of applications including air conditioners, washing machines, plasma display panels (PDP), LCD monitors, electronic ballasts and industrial motor controls.

"The temperature dependence of both products is at the market's lowest level, achieved by optimizing the internal circuit design," said Dongyoung Huh, marketing manager of the power conversion product line. "In addition to the exceptional reliability and efficiency offered by Fairchild's FAN7380 and FAN7382 half-bridge gate drivers, both products guarantee stable performance in a wide range of applications. These components are important additions to Fairchild's Power Franchise portfolio offering the industry's broadest portfolio of high performance products that optimize system power."

The FAN7380, featuring built-in, 100 ns dead time control, is an excellent general purpose device, delivering 90 mA sourcing and 180 mA sinking drive current on both channels. Fairchild's FAN7382, with a sourcing/sinking drive of 350 mA/650 mA, is well suited for PDP applications, fluorescent lamp ballast and motor control applications. Each driver features floating channels designed for bootstrap operation to +600 V, under-voltage lockout (UVLO) on both channels, 10 to 20 V supply range for VCC and VBS, TTL-compatible logic inputs, matched propagation delay below 50 ns and in-phase input/output.

When coupled with Fairchild's MOSFETs, IGBTs and small signal discretes, these half-bridge gate drivers provide a full half-bridge solution. These products are a prime example of how Fairchild provides a full system power optimization solution. Fairchild Semiconductor is a leading supplier of power analog and power discrete products. This product breadth and depth is further enhanced by Fairchild's technical expertise and wealth of experience partnering with customers to solve critical industry system power design challenges.

Fairchild's FAN7380 and the FAN7382 are available in 8-SOIC packages. These products are lead-free (Pb-free) and meet or exceed the requirements of the joint IPC/JEDEC standard J-STD-020B and are compliant with the European Union requirements that are now in effect.
