Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST Mission-Critical Server Achieves World Record Performance in SPECjbb2005 Java Server Benchmark

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 5 /-- Fujitsu Computer Systems today announced the high-end model of its PRIMEQUEST(TM) server line, PRIMEQUEST 480, has achieved a new world record in the Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC®) (1) Java Business Benchmark 2005 (SPECjbb®2005), with performance of 322,719 business operations per second (2).

Fujitsu achieved the record with a 32-way PRIMEQUEST 480 server using Intel® Itanium® 2 processors operating at 1.6 GHz. The results were made public on December 22, 2005 by the SPEC.

SPECjbb2005 is a benchmark test developed by the SPEC to evaluate the performance of servers running Java-based applications. It simulates the processing of actual wholesale industry business tasks, such as ordering, shipping, receipts and payment processing, inventory management and customer data management. Thus, the results can be used as an index of processing performance that reflects real-world business operations.

Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST servers are the world's most powerful open systems servers, combining the economy of open-standard systems with the reliability of a mainframe. The systems use high- performance 64-bit Intel® Itanium® 2 processors, with a Fujitsu-developed chipset that maximizes the reliability and scalability of the processor. Additionally, PRIMEQUEST high server performance has been further enhanced through ultra-high speed synchronous transmission between chips.

Since launching worldwide sales of PRIMEQUEST servers in April 2005, Fujitsu has received orders from dozens of corporations, including TKC Corporation, and currently has approximately 400 business deals under consideration in Japan and overseas. In addition, major IT services provider EDS is offering PRIMEQUEST servers in its mission-critical computing solutions.
