Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 7500 ROADM Now Deployable for Data Applications by U.S. Department of Defense

Platform Passes Stringent Interoperability/Conformance and Information Assurance Testing at DISA JITC Lab

Indian Head, MD, October 22, 2007 - Fujitsu Network Communications, a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, announced today that their FLASHWAVE® 7500 Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) conforms to military standards required for reliably transporting and restoring data traffic when connected to the Global Information Grid (GIG) infrastructure of the Department of Defense (DoD). The rigorous testing was completed at the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) laboratories in Indian Head, Md.

"Supporting the highly-secure and scalable networking needs of the U.S. Government is a key component of our overall optical networking strategy," said Jim Hintze, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. "The FLASHWAVE 7500 platform is an ideal solution for the DoD's demanding network applications, incorporating advanced, field-proven optical technologies and a flexible, modular architecture that supports reliable services for the core enterprise information infrastructure at Army installations, and modernizes Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) transport services."

The FLASHWAVE 7500 ROADM is based on advanced photonic technology, including a Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) -based Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) that provides the platform with the flexibility to meet rapidly changing service and network traffic patterns. WSS technology allows multiple Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) rings to be terminated in a single FLASHWAVE 7500 hub node and supports traffic grooming across multiple networks. The platform also uses advanced control plane intelligence, coupled with sophisticated optical self-tuning features, to allow rapid end-to-end service activation. With its highly flexible modular architecture, which includes a redundant network processor to assure continuous network availability, the FLASHWAVE 7500 platform will support up to 40 wavelengths of 40 Gbps transmission between 24 nodes and across 1000+ kilometer networks.

Fujitsu delivered a complete solution for end-to-end information assurance by utilizing the BorderGuard(TM) high assurance VPN security solution from Blue Ridge Networks. This addition provides a secure, encrypted management plane for mission-critical environments. BorderGuard solutions have been deployed around the world in support of the most demanding secure communications applications, and are known for their reliability and iron-clad security.

The Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7500 ROADM will be on display from October 29-31, 2007 at the Military Communications Conference (MILCOM) in Orlando, Fla. within Fujitsu booth No. 1031.
